Qantas DSC October 2024 Offer - book by 31/10/24 & fly 1/11/24-19/10/25

You can definitely change the itinerary and keep your existing PNR and therefore double status credits. You shouldn't be charged a change fee due to the schedule changes. What's the new trip going to be?

Do not use the word "cancel" as they will just cancel the PNR and create a new one.

Use plain English. You booked this during DSCs and you need to retain the PNR so you still receive DSCs. It's not a hack, it's in the T&Cs that you can make changes as long as the new flights are still in the promo period.
Yeah, you’d want to start the conversation with “I need to make a change“.

Thanks so much for the quick responses, @serfty, @SYD and @justinbrett. It's clear how I need to manage this if I decide to try and make a change - both theoretically and practically. Really helpful content.

The flights are scheduled for 31 March, and we'll be flying that day regardless. Whether I will try to change them is up in the air. I'd love to do it online, but in MMB it says 'Your Booking is Processing' so I can't select 'Change'.

There's also some conflict when searching for other options on the same day. If I search CBR-CHC, the first screen only shows CR+ options at about 80,000 points. Then if I toggle to 'All Flights' , a few decent 2-leg options come up as CR at 41,5000 points. If genuinely available, I would happily switch to one of them, forego 14SCs for the CBR-ADL leg (which was in Y), get back 4-5 hours, and have more time in one of the F lounges.

Thanks again - this has been super helpful.

A very positive update on this. I followed the advice given above and it worked really well.

I found suitable CR flights and rang Qantas to see if we could change. I was lucky to get a great premium consultant (Katie) who was fully clued up on keeping the PNR so we could maintain DSCs.

So we're now on QF1279, CBR-MEL, 13:45, then QF169, MEL-CHC, 18:55. A 4.5 hour shorter day, and a good amount of time in the MEL F Lounge. Probably the best outcome possible.

Katie also requested the release of J reward seats on the domestic leg, and they came through. Initially she she that might have cost more points, which I was a bit confused about, but in the end, just the same - 41,500. And I think we're getting about $50 back in taxes.

Cheers,
Horatio

And there was no 5,000 points fee as I noted the initial change was invountary.

Great outcome @Horatio

Coming back from NZ at the end of April I originally booked Akl-Mel-Ool.

Qantas made a change which had me on an earlier fight with only a 1hr connection for an international to domestic transfer in Mel

I was able to change online to fly back the next day with the following Akl-Bne-Syd-Ool so now giving 320SC instead of the original 280SC
