Qantas DSC October 2024 Offer - book by 31/10/24 & fly 1/11/24-19/10/25

Complete speculation: If QANTAS doesn't offer a DSC promotion this month, that means they're moving forward with a switch to a $ spend based status system. If they do have a DSC promotion, that means any switch to a $ spend based system is likely at least a year away.

As I said, complete speculation.

Why couldn't they do both? If (nay, when) they move to a revenue-based model, then they can still have their hotly anticipated DSC offers each year, but instead of double SCs based on distance/segments as defined by the QF earning tables as they are today, they would be based on the doubling of any SCs earned per AUD spent on a given fare class. They'd just need to hire another work experience kid to set-up the formulae in the DSC spreadsheet to determine whether a booking was made before or after the new earning model was announced :)

I guess so, indeed. My speculation was based on the idea that they would not want to be accused of a misleading promotion by changing the meaning/implication of DSCs during the window of the offer.

I don't think it'll be very hard for them to transition.

They'll follow VA's lead. They'll keep the SC requirements and simply change from earning SC based on distance/fare class to earning SC based on dollars spent on bookings after a specific date. Initially it'll only be Qantas/Jetstar flights as they won't have information on how much you spend on tickets on partners.

True - but they'll have this issue at any given point in time; DSC promo or none. They'll need to make it clear that bookings which are made on or before a certain date are calculated one way, and bookings created after that date are calculated in another. Pretty common for loyalty programs making updates.

That's why I speculate that they won't change the system during the flight window of a DSC promotion based on the current system. Easier for them if they make the change after the window. Windows are about a year long, so if DSC this month, my bet is no change for another year or more. But if there's no DSC this month, maybe that means they're preparing to announce a change.

They could make the change after the booking window closes. The travel window is not important in this instance

Legally probably right, but wouldn't do much for their FF customer reputation.
Should make no difference to folks with eligible DSC bookings though, is what I’m suggesting. We don’t have the facts, but IMHO they’d leave them earning double SCs based on the program terms at the time of the booking, even if they flew 6 months after any program changes (if still inside the travel period).

If you booked a flight during the DSC promo that would credit you 50 SCs and a bonus 50 SCs; they would still honour these amounts, even if folks that booked the same flights later on after the changes are only eligible for, say, 40 SCs.

The change, when it comes, will likely be quite terrible in terms of customer perception, for the most part, but I can’t see them short-changing customers on existing bookings of any kind.

Cheers,
Matt.

Just incase no-one reported it. Business as usual in the Qantas IT department my DSC rolled in a day after my flight.

Bank error in my favour last week: 2 person banker booking from last Feb, split out to separate PNR for me (was using after travel date for that promo so didn't care anyway), DSC credited as Oct promo somehow.
