Hi, apologies if already discussed elsewhere or if I should have posted on the AA sub. I am hoping to use up some AAdvantage miles returned from a cancelled covid trip and found some strange duplicate Qantas flights out of TSV - I imagine some of these will be deleted/merged later on once pax loads become better quantified but it would be annoying to have to have tickets re-issued etc. by AA. I checked on the Qantas website and there are indeed multiple QF flights loaded for the date in question - 3rd October TSV - BNE.

0840 QF1291 (Alliance E190) and 0845 QF1753 (QLink 717)

1235 - two QF 737s scheduled, QF755 and QF757

1440 and 1450 - another E190 and 717 combo

1735 - two QF737s - QF759 and QF761.

I am mainly interested in the 1735 connecting to CX156 out of BNE, if I take a punt I would prob go for QF759. Or am I missing something obvious? Appreciate members' expert advice.

How strange indeed. Yes, it is likely that half of those flights are placeholders and there will be consolidation at some point.

I'd say it's probably 50/50 as to which of the flights will actually run, although my money would be on the E190s running instead of the 717s at the times where these are both scheduled.

FWIW, I'd be more concerned about CX no longer being in business by October

Daylight Savings starts 02 October.
Expect time changes.
The Australian “summer” starts earlier and finishes later than the IATA NW.

This is purely speculative on my behalf, but you can tell which flights have been recently added on the Qantas website by the lack of an amenities strip underneath each flight (the icons that show aircraft type, seat pitch, meals, etc). It usually takes a few days once the flights have been added for this to appear.

Based on this, the following flights have been recently added:

QF1921 0840 - 1025
QF755 1235 - 1455
QF1923 1450 - 1635
QF761 1735 - 1920

You could assume this is a newer schedule and that the other flights will be the ones that will be canned — but obviously just a theory!

This usually happens when they shuffle aircraft around on different routes and QF IT can’t keep up. I was looking a few months ago at MEL-LST flights. The usual afternoon 717 was there, but a Q300 at the exact same time had been loaded. Looked again a few weeks later, double ups disappeared and only the Q300 flight remained with a 717 still operating the morning flight. It seems it takes the QF system a little while to catch up to schedule changes.

I think what’s most interesting is they’re intending to put the Alliance E190’s to use on TSV-BNE. Not sure how the QF mainline crew would feel about that, but imagine we’ll see more Alliance flying under the QLink banner.

Edit: the QQ E190’s are also appearing on BNE-CNS/ADL/CBR/NTL. All have schedule duplications with 717/737 flights.

Agree with this is an indication of Alliance taking over the routes (recalling QF announced an expansion to the agreement some time back).

Now will this signal some 717 retirements or put onto other routes. I thought they were going away in the 2024/25 timeframe, but I may just be remembering wrong on that.

Thanks guys for the feedback. I personally would be happier on either the E190 or 717 compared with a 737. Lack of a middle seat is a big plus for me, particularly when travelling with my partner. I also like the old F100s but that could be nostalgia for those East-West F28s I flew on as a kid in the 80s ex-MCY.

A mixture of National Jet, Alliance and Qantas aircraft!
Amenities strips on all flights. Very challenging to predict what they are doing here!!
