Qantas Early Check In at TBIT (LAX)

Any way, back to what i experinced today-

Qantas at TBIT currently operate check in counters advertised as being open from 2:15pm.

At the very least they were checking in PAX with luggage at 2:30pm.

Should you be constrained by the need to check in luggage, this information may be important to you

Best way of dealing with a day at LAX before connecting to the late night Australia departures ... fly to SAN and back. 🤣

I did that once, admittedly as a part of a DCIRC fare, and with the airport so close to downtown and the beach, was a great day before connecting back to QF96. Probably wouldn't work so well these days due to lack of flights and certainly can't be included in any oneworld fares.

Hopefully not a silly question but related to your question: if one was to fly AA from LAX to SYD could they get a super early check in on account of LAX being a major AA hub? If so, I suppose that would allow one to access the QF Flounge before the riff raff join for their QF flight back home!

Check with AA? But also iirc AA's flight to Sydney departs at 2030. Do you really want to just sit at the lounge for 6+ hours to get in earlier than QF check-in?

Wouldn't a trip to the beach nearby be better?

Some people like beaches, other people like lounge visits. I should also point out that AA offers a Flagship First check-in entrance for OWEs, something QF doesn't offer even in SYD!

Fairly certain LAX is all day check in for AA (like SYD is for QF). Their website lists airports that have restrictions (4 hours), but LAX isn't one of them.

Read Serftys Nov 9 response this morning and decided to risk being 5.5 hours early for QF12 at LAX.
Despite all official sources saying 3 hours I
arived at 15.00 ( its a rainy miserable day in LA today anyway) and checked in bumping the few queued up in Economy by being in Business Line, checked in, security took minutes and into lounge.

Lounge was pretty empty then filled up now about half full...can't recall any changes from before covid but I've only been here a few times.

When I booked this flight was departing at 22.30, then got changed to 20.30...unsure why.

20:25 has been the schedule since the 5th November.

It is likely due to Daylight Savings changes. During the Oz summer, these flights tend to be scheduled to depart LAX two hours earlier that they are during Winter.

Depending when you book, often the GDS's haven't kept up.

Daylight Savings ended this year in the US on Sunday 5th.

Ended up being over an hour late leaving LAX anyway...crew stuck in traffic...for those going there the I10 freeway has a closed section due to a fire last week, so lots of extra traffic on the other streets now. Allow extra time, it will be closed for up to two months.

Has anyone had any luck checking in early at LAX lately? The Qantas page still says 3hrs before departure.

I don't check luggage but I had another look in February and early check-in was available after 2pm (not sure of exact time).

Note with the recent daylight savings time changes, we are now in the "Northern Summer" period.

Currently, with the generally later departures for the evening QF flights, I would not expect early check in to open before 3pm.

Is early check in available with luggage? We'll be there in June for QF12 and need to plan my day.

Flying LAX to SYD at 23:45 today. Want to check our luggage at 6.00pm and spend a long time in the lounge. But can' see anything specific about when is the Earliest i can check luggage. Somethings i have read say 3.00pm with QANTAS night flights from North America, but other things say QANTAS has no storage at LAX and 3 hours is the earliest. Hoping someone has experienced this and can help before we pack up and drive to LA.

Welcome to AFF.

You question had been moved to an existing thread on the topic.

For recent experience, look from post 32:
