Nooooooooo!

The non-J/WP/SG line will actually be shorter and quicker in BNE and PER!

Qantas Gold frequent flyers can now use priority boarding lanes to skip the boarding gate queues on domestic Australian domestic flights.
A Qantas spokesperson confirmed the change to Australian Business Traveller, advising that “cabin crew are currently announcing this benefit to customers upon boarding and airport signage is being progressively updated across the network.”

Another WP and above status benefit diluted.

Would be interested to know actual numbers of P1, WP and SG in the program overall. On the routes I fly, there are silly amounts of SG, but only a spattering of WP and barely any P1. Has to do with rosters primarily, people never get above SG due to a limit on how many 'swings' they do at work (or return flights)..

Mixed feelings as I may yet fail to re-qualify WP. Perhaps true priority boarding (as with AA) rather than the current priority queuing would ease the pain. Better policing would also help.

But yes, WP is becoming less and less exclusive.

Groan. Just about to get MrP back to WP.

This is a good move, it's not a dilution as this was a benefit offered to Gold members previously, per the OneWorld benefits awarded to Sapphires, and was removed. All they're doing is adding it back. It'd be nice of other airlines also followed all the rules *cough* BA *cough* :p

Repeating myself but I believe this is a sign that platinum level will go in the next 12 months.

How do you figure that, Qantas estimates 2000-3000 P1 members... that would have to be the lowest OWE group for an airline if P1 became the new Platinum/OWE equivalent tier? It seems too absurd to suggest they'd go down that path, especially with a huge leap between 700/600 to 3600 to gain a new card.

When was domestic priority boarding a gold benefit? Certainly not in the last 5 to 6 years. It is certainly a dilution of platinum benefits.

It's my prediction based on Qantas closing the gap between gold and platinum regularly. Let's see how my prediction goes. As for the replacement. Perhaps they'll make gold qualification 1000 SC

As a Scum Gold myself, I obviously think this is a great move.

In fact, I like PB so much that it would have me consider doing a status run just to retain Gold (I probably would've just bought QC otherwise as a I previously saw little extra benefit to SG domestically)

According to the PB thread, the PB lanes were always full of SGs anyway, so not much should change.

Of course as a Gold you would see this as a smart move. As Qantas are fast removing Platinum benefits one can see Gold benefits truly enhanced.

No point in being Platinum though as Platinum and Gold will be merged shortly. Only thing not certain is the new qualification level.

Not sure 700 SCs/600 SCs for Gold/Platinum is a true reflection as new Platinum/Platinum One is a long way off at 3,600 SCs mainly on Qantas metal. And 1400 SCs/1200 SCs is a bit too much for Gold.

Will it be 1000 SCs/900 SCs for new Gold/Platinum?

My first reaction was not to give QF any new ideas. However, they probably don't take much notice of what AFF members have to say about QF anyway.

I

Interesting view, I believe you are incorrect. If you would like a bottle of decent plonk on this prediction, always happy to play.

Certainly willing to put some plonk on it. We might have to argue the definition of decent. ;)

It light of Sam's comment. I'll clarify that I believe there will be 4 status levels, rather than the current five. Excluding chairmans lounge. No prediction on qualification requirements or names of levels. So there may be a level called platinum but not as we currently know it. As John mentioned merged gold/platinum.

With respect to giving qantas ideas. I believe this has been a long term destination for the last 2 to 4 sets of program changes. Perhaps from the increase of gold status bonus to 75%.

I think they take more notice than we might believe. Just look at what happened to MASA's.

Could end up being 1200 PS, 2400 SG, 3600 WP1 :)
Huge jump from Gold to Platinum.

My thinking was more along the lines Qantas new Gold/Platinum would be the equivalent of VA Platinum and be without First lounge access.

Not sure what benefit there is to WP anymore. Sure F lounge is nice, but you'd have to be in there a lot to justify crediting to QF.
