Qantas extends status extensions until end June 2023 (previously December 2022)

Assume you can only call/email the usual frequent flyer contacts.

I seriously doubt any dispensation would be given unless you were within 10SCs of requalifying (there was a post upthread of someone who was 1 SC short being extended). But by the 31st July (and that is my anniversary too) borders will have been open for 19 months; so they will deem it as more than ample time to earn those 1200SCs (and there was a DSC as well).

Only true if you FF year end is 30 June or earlier. Some of us have had to fly loads to retain/uplift status for 2024.
I will give it a crack either way and see where I land...no harm!

As an aside, I personally don't necessarily subscribe to the idea that there has been ample time / opportunity for all to maintain Platinum status despite borders being open for 19 months. Those 19 months have included ridiculous cost of airfares (particularly J class which was the gateway for many ppl to Platinum and beyond), ongoing uncertainty around COVID (ie the unknown and planning trips ahead), differing border controls and positions around the globe etc etc).

I am not looking to open a debate or complain, just my perspective. I wouldn't have got there anyway, so dont see it as a barrier for me, but I'm sure for others it has made it harder or impossible. Full respect to people who have managed to maintain in the face of all of the above - if anything I believe they should be rewarded more!

Last year you could easily get ~500SC for about $1,000 flying return indirect to NZ. It’s been very doable. Yes, the fares are more expensive this year.

Ultimately at some point QF has to start encouraging flyers to return to flying normally to retain/attain status. Whether they have made this changes sooner/later than they should have or at just the right time is subjective.

Well with record pre COVID numbers flying. Record profits, I'd say QF pretty happy to keep fares where they are.

Lot of pent up demand is what we keep hearing, now how that lasts, possibly indefinitely mixed with fuel prices not likely to go down or stay down for long, I think higher fare prices are here to stay.

I agree. In the spirit of good customer service the offer should have been made for 2023 total.

But that would not give you the extension of your status if after July 1.

This is the problem with the "rolling memberships" that QF has, as opposed to the more traditional calendar year used by other airlines where it's very simple to just extend everyone, or not, as they have the same expiry date. With QF, we have this messy situation of everyone having 1 of 12 membership anniversaries, and it's going to lead to inequality in situations like this - Remember the initial extensions left out the, iirc, Jan/Feb/Mar members and those affected were quite reasonably cheezed off. Now it's the Jul-Dec folks. QF can never really "win" here whatever they do because always some group will feel it's not fair for some reason or other.

QF tried to smooth this issue in the first covid year, by giving a decreasing amount of SC support according to the anniversary month. I thought that was a fair effort to avoid this cliff. A bit annoyed nothing like that got implemented for this covid exit.

Sorry to ask this, but 54 pages to read through makes it a bit hard.

My wifes membership year ended at end of April 2023 - she had 400 status credits, so was Silver FF and had taken 6 flights during that year, none were booked under DSC

How many of those points should have rolled over?

Cheers

Per the archived status support page it should be 40% of the requirement to retain silver up to a maximum of 100 status credits. There are some exclusions on what can and cannot be rolled over. Namely any status credits rolled over from a prior year won't count but flights taken and status credits earned from partners on the ground should count.

Hope that helps.

Basically 100 max of the SC's actually earned in the 202/23 membership year - not including any rollover/status support from the prior year (as kf88 points out). ie: if 100 or more new SC's were earned from flying were earned then 100 should rollover.

Did she not receive any rollover? or are you just checking that what she got made sense?

100 max as part of status support, 100 from Points Club Plus, if she had attained that. My OH had a total of 200 rollover, needless to say she requalified for Silver for next year pretty quickly.

P1 here with July 31 expired status and only earned 200 SC last year. Which are now showing as expired.

Very weird to work out what’s happening.

Qantas App says I’m still P1 yet has a July 2023 expiry. Then the app also says I need 3,600 SC before July 2024 to retain P1.

Made a dummy booking and I can see P1 listed against my QFF with all benefits available, e.g. extra luggage and I can select legroom seats without charge.

However, I can’t see any new P1 First lounge invitations, which usually arrive at the start of the year.

There could be some “case by case” going on in the background? Or they could just be doing things manually and be slow to update everyone?

Who knows 🤷‍♂️

QF usually take a few days, often by the 4th or 5th day of the month before status resets. I expect you'll drop to Platinum - this is a common thing many have seen over the years and been excited only to be deflated.

I expect by the end of the weekend your status will, sadly, reset.

Someone with gold status posted the same thing. In general when glitches like these happen it is best not to post the details as it brings it to the attention of QF as they will fix the glitch and your status will drop.

You’re probably right. While it would be nice to hold on to. You can only really use it if you’re flying, which I’m not doing much of.

I’ve only taken a handful of flights since getting P1. Wasn’t great timing with COVID.
