Fantastic prices. I've gone ahead and booked MEL-HKG-LHR-SIN-MEL for $1500 all in.

Funny that the prices should just appear today, with no promotion by Qantas about it. Maybe it's to compete with the Singapore sale?

I would say that is more than likely the case.

It does seem funny though, to be competing with someone but not promote your competitive product. Perhaps we're the ones doing all the promotion for them? ;)

There has been some PR and press but no advertising I have seen yet.

Probably just relying on people comparing and TA's always see everyones fares anyway so Singapore are infact paying for QF's advertising in a way!

If they were caight on the hop with the SQ fares, and decided to match, they may not have had time to get advertising copy ready and through the approval process (commerical, legal etc.).

I booked

SYD-BKK-LHR-SIN-SYD

Now just gotta book the rest of the route LHR-CDG-CFE-CDG-LHR

this is off topic but is 3 and a half hours enough to clear customs in London and get from a British Airways flight onto an Air France flight?

According to Best Frights:
Asian cities you may fly via are Singapore, Bangkok and Hong Kong. You may also choose to fly via Tokyo in one direction.

Can you book for Tokyo online or would you need to speak to an agent to arrange stopovers?

I would assume that getting from Tokyo to London would require BA, and the QF online engine is not big at throwing these up!

Speaking of that, I was advised by BA to book another reservation and link the two PNR's... I called Qantas to do the linking because I'm more worried about the return flight than the arrival... but here's the issue:

I'm arriving 6:20am on a British Airways flight from BKK connecting to a British Airways flight to Lyon, France at 8:40am departure. Is 2 hours and 20 minutes enough at Heathrow???? Will they re-accomodate me on a later flight at no charge if it is delayed?

Similarly on return 9:05am arrival at LHR from Lyon on BA, and 12:15pm Qantas departure back to Sydney... again, 3 hours good enough? I don't want to miss this flight, its on the A380!

BA10 to BA360 is a valid connection if purchased as a through ticket. If separate tickets, even if the PNR's are "linked" by adding each as an information segment, there is no guarantee of protection following a delay to the first segment. However, it is possible BA will still protect you since both flights are operated by BA. But they have no obligation to do so.

note that BA10 will arrive into Terminal 4 and BA360 will depart from Terminal 5 so you have change terminals.

BA365 to QF32 is also a valid connection if purchased on a single ticket. Similar protecting issues may arise if separate tickets. BA365 from LYN will arrive into LHR Terminal 5 and QF32 will depart from LHR terminal 4 so again a terminal shuffle required.

Or they just let the TA's do it for them.... Flight Centre is running a heavy weight TV campaign promoting the specials at the moment...

BTW I flew a similar fare last year and the Tokyo - London leg was with Finnair on an A340. The service was exceptional in my view.

Should be enough we did it in 90 minutes including terminal 4 to terminal 5
