Qantas FF announcement 20 June - "biggest overhaul" in program history

OW awards have been fairly immune to change over the last few years - let's hope it stays that way!

All the more reason for them to be devalued.

I'd say at least a bump to 300K for a J award. Maybe much more.

You aren't paying it in fees, you're spending it with merchants you were going to spend it with anyway. It doesn't cost anything unless you don't spend that much via CC anyway and if so, you shouldn't really be in this game. That pays for a couple of utilities or an insurance policy or something. The points are essentially free other than the annual fee. Do I really need to explain this? It's kind of Credit Card 101.

Sign-up bonuses vs ongoing spend are two entirely different categories. It's like confusing classic awards and P+P LOL.

If I spend $20K per month, I am going to need to work out where I get best value for my ongoing spend. I can get 100K for $3K spend, but the real question is: where do I put my other $17K spend?

I'm saying that if the value of points is reduced to 1ct/pt, I'm better off putting that $17K spend through a 1% cash back card.

Why is all of this about you suddenly?

I said I'd find another way to get value (regardless of how much) out of QFF points if they price premium classic rewards out of decent value for redemptions

I said even if you didn't find it worthwhile anymore, other people who can get bonus points for CC applications would still be in the game

Somehow you've conflated this with how you like to do things which quite frankly I don't care about, and don't know why you're carrying on about it.

Somebody up-thread mentioned a 3 month lead time, is this the usual with Qantas enhancements? I have exactly enough points for a redemption I want to make in 2 weeks time...

What is about me? I was giving a hypothetical example LOL.

If you find value at 1ct/pt, good for you. There are some excellent toasters in the Qantas store at 1ct/pt :D.

3.2 Qantas Loyalty will use best efforts to advise Members of material changes to these Terms and Conditions and, where such changes will limit Benefits:
(a) where the Benefit is provided by Qantas, to give Members at least three months notice;
(b) where the Benefit is provided by a third party, where possible give Members at least 30 days notice.

Call me cynical, but i dare say i will be planning a booking in the next three months as a result.

Why would Qantas send an email to the general public about an impending media announcement?

Not the general public. QFF members, as I said.

And why? Because it will affect the QFF members? Maybe they would like to hear it direct, or at least be told where they can find it on the QF site, rather than have the message filtered through the media?

Is that concept so strange?

DSC offers will be targeted offers. Forward bookings one measure.

No, what I meant was if SC's are replaced with EQM and EQD or similar concept a la AA then would the offers earn double EQD's or just double EQM and EQS?

They'll be able to read about it on the Qantas website when it's announced. They'll also be able to read about it through the media and ideally find analysis and context which may be lacking from the QF side of things. And 99.9999% of Qantas Frequent Flyer members will first learn of the changes from the media and then head to the QF website to learn more if they want to.

Errr, because QWFF members aren't media..?

Errrr, because I said like the media, not as the media.

As much as I like AusBT, I still like to see things that affect me from the source, rather than having media decide what is going to affect me.

All QF need to do, in the next few days is to send out an email to QFF members saying that a media Announcement will be on their site 10:00 am Thursday ( or whenever it will be up). Again, is that so outrageous?

Don't worry, I'll still be reading AusBT, but I'll also be able to think for myself. ;)

Geez I wish I got into this game sooner then 2.5yrs ago, the changes over the past 18 months from all FF programs I'm a member of have been downright awful for members!!

And I can't see QF bucking that trend, as AJ & Co need their FY19 bonuses!!! (the cynical accountant in me believes that's why they're announcing it before June 30 ;);))

Maybe cheaper seats that don’t earn points or SC.

Hope they don’t make it harder to get status/lifetime status.

Without lifetime status to aim for I’d be likely to try competitor airlines.

Perhaps QF is leaving OW and no more earn and redeem on OW airlines.

Are they adding Family Pooling.

Will Points expire if not used with in 18 months

So so many things it could be
