Qantas FF hmmm what's going on?

During an election we send out upwards of 120,000 items, per electorate, per week, sometimes twice a week.

Granted most of these are a simple A4 in a DL, but often are complex cards with DVDs etc - you'll be amazed what machines can insert and stuff now...

Never-the-less, they aren't here for most, so I guess there is an issue somewhere....

*facepalm* I'd like to make a remark refering to the name of Sherlock, but I can't use a specific four letter word that goes with that phrase sadly.

Anyone with a clue around these parts knows that the specific breakdowns of membership levels aren't available, so the total and active member numbers are the only ones which can be used to provide some basic numerical context to the issue.

Even assuming +/-25% have status above NB, that's still nearly a cool couple of million customers. You can't spit those numbers out overnight, no matter how big your mailing house, production line, or speed of your equipment.

No need to beat yourself up about it ;)
My point is that the total numbers is misleading wrt the size of the mail out given that we don't know anything about the break down of the various tiers. It certainly doesn't provide any context to the size of the mail out. 25% is a pure guess. Probably a better guess would be based on the roll out schedule. I'm on the phone now so I'm going to have to guess the roll out period, iirc it runs until march? So something like 20 weeks @ 20,000 per week that gives 400,000. (?)

Edit: I have just now checked the rollout schedule it just says WP, SG, PS and QP will recieve the kits by early 2011. I'd say that end of March covers that, with a start in mid november 2010, I think 20 weeks is a reasonable yet conservative estimate. Perhaps 400,000 is a bit low if it includes QP members, but it seems likely that QP members don't get the tags so that is a simple letter with new card.

As for no moaning, the bulk of this thread is people moaning for the sake of it - with no positive, informative or useful contribution to speak of.

So what that you've not received your packs yet - the world isn't going to end because of it. The speaks to an entitlement attitude, more often referred to as a DYKWIA.

If this is you, nobody cares or needs to know, simply zip your lip, put away the keyboard, and do something productive - I'd suggest taking up nitting.

Sorry, needed to get that off my chest.
I realise it's a rant but how about some introspection. Let's turn your reasoning back towards you. Some people do care and have started a thread to discuss, how does it effect you? You say you don't care then why the need to say anything? Is it constructive to tell everyone to stop moaning.

Anyway SWMBO has subjected me to intensive training about how I don't need to express my opinion all the time. Guess I'm just trying to share the love, so to speak. ;) Feel free to ignore me, or call me names.

While the world probably wont end because some haven’t received their packs, you could understand how frustrated they’d be if everyone was harking on about how much easier it is now not to print a BP and just tap their card on a pole or at the gate… especially when they should be doing the same ;)

So is the shortage with Gold cards now? Because I recently hit Gold and am hoping my new card will be in the mail soon.

No price was quoted but it was more an expression of interest. Still poor form IMO

EOI, perhaps they need to see how many before they hit the go button for the discount rate. I wouldn't respond.

Some of these changes are going to bite back at some stage I think.

What is a life time QP membership , or it is a LTS or LTG you are talking about ?

They used to offer a Qantas Club membership that lasted for a lifetime (so until you die). The last price was about $4000 I think before it was finally withdrawn. It did not offer status.

No, it's completely unrelated to Lifetime Gold or Silver. During the 1990s and early 2000s, it was possible to purchase lifetime membership of the QP. Some years ago (perhaps when too many people had availed themselves of the offer?), QF withdrew this option for new members. Of course, it continues to apply to those of us who joined as lifetime members in those years.

Its main use in those days was that only QP members had access to the QP, even if they were travelling Business class domestically. I do normally travel Business, but bought the lifetime QP membership so I would have access to the QP. Of course, now, a Business ticket gains you access to either the QP or the Business Lounge. But it was not so back then.

No doubt as the years go by, it will become rarer and rarer to see a QP card with the "Life Member" embossing! ;)

This thread seems to have wandered significantly off-topic. I realise bag tags were mentioned in passing.

The OP is a WP, he has gone past his anniversary date (as has his wife) and has not yet received his new card. So his current card has expired.

While the sending out of NGCI packs may take a while, that should not impact on the renewal of status packs. Unless QF has seriously stuffed up to the point that it can't handle it's normal mail-outs efficiently, which I doubt.

I'd continue to hassle QF until it is sorted. And check the address they have recorded for you.

I personally haven't had any problems with QF mail-outs this year. I received 3 Platinum cards and a set of bag tags in 2010. One card for the NGCI trial, one for my anniversary I think, or maybe when they changed the card design, and then another one with the bag tags (which are still in their lovely box, and will probably stay there).

I purchased lifetime membership but not sure that it carries any value anymore. Since then have been doing a lot more flying and have LTG. LTG carries fine print which essentially says that they can take it away in the future if they want to change the conditions of membership - I wonder if having paid for the lifetime QP affords some protection.

As for tags and welcome stuff - I got all of this. Nice tags and can understand why they will not be free in the future. I was not asked to pay for the tags. I have been a Platinum member for about 5 or 6 years now.

Can just imagine the dummy spit taking LTG away would cause

I will add a moan to this thread (regardless of early posts) as it's now almost late February when the deployment of the tags was originally supposed to be complete (so I was told). My complaint is that now that they have done away with paper priority bag tags even for those of us who don't have the Q tags, who knows when my luggage will come out. True they were not always effective, but 90% of the time they were.

No info is available from Qantas as they seem to be beholden to the outsourced company.

I've been Gold and Platinum for the past 5 or so years and Qantas Club before that for a total of over 24 years so yes I am annoyed by this - definitely DYKWIA - they clearly don't.

Isn't the priority thing printed on the luggage label that you attach? My experience is that priority baggage doesn't work at all with the Q tags.

Maybe I have it all wrong, but I can't self-check without the new card as far as I know. I didn't think that the desk check of bags was providing any label that reflected priority. I thought it was related to the new tags.

Our bags came off the plane super fast in Sydney off the Perth flight so the FF tags were gold plated today. The plane was pretty full so well done QF with the new system. It saved us at least 15 minutes today as the bags came out about 5 minutes after we made it to the carousel.
