Qantas First class SYD-LAX

My last flight in F there were no mid flight options (steak santa / anything cooked).

Very surprised there was no ability for a hot mid-flight snack in F when J can get a Schnitzel sandwich and even in whY they usually come through with hotpockets/pizza for those not sleeping.

Next time just ask for anything available off the Business class menu; they will run up and get it for you but agree, a packet of chips and fruit don’t cut it!

Just trying to cut through some hyperbole here. Although, well intentioned for sure

There's the steak sandwich in F. Served hot.

Kerbside drop off is offered in Sydney and Melbourne (International terminals only) and for me personally this has worked, they greet you and escort to check in.
Flying paid F fare as WP to SIN (from SYD) on Monday, and then again to LAX in March. Would love to experience this, but not holding my breath.

I hear they send you emails now the day before, not sure if it’s something that’s offered or if it’s only on request - but then is it only for actual assistance?

The inconsistency potential really sucks, and makes it really difficult to set any sort of positive expectation. :(

My advice is have zero expectations so that way you avoid disappointment.

Hopefully they surprise and delight you.

Enjoy both trips ✈️

P.S: You should be contacted via phone by a First host! Perhaps update the group as to what your experience was like post.
Received an email at 5am today which was worded very much like a mail merge template. Guess they’ve done away with the calls these days.

Going in with low expectations for sure, but disappointed I have to do that at all given the price point. But alas~

The steak sandwich is not "officially available" as a snack in F. It is not listed as a snack on the menu and only available if the crew feels like offering it to you (and obviously there are any left from the meal service). On two recent F flights, I got it once after asking for it explicitly on both.

As mentioned above, there is no hot snack "officially available" in F on QF, unlike when flying in J!

Agreed - my last LAX-SYD was denied a steak sanga after I skipped dinner because i’d eaten in the lounge. Next flight i’m going to ask one be set aside for me and skip the entre (which usually has the steak sanga as an option).

Time QFF got with the competition and offered dine on demand. Some even now offer this in J. Often on QF , some normal things just seem like too much trouble for QF flight attendants. Pity.

The email states you can ask about spa availability when you arrive at the lounge or email about booking a spa appointment with a provided email address.

Sent them an email this morning about it, will reply if I hear anything back.
Shouldn't be a problem getting a spa session if booked well enough in advance I reckon. As someone who (shamelessly) flew JQ and QF domestically out of the international terminal, what I will say is that I found it difficult to find a spa spot on a walk up basis. So far I was only successful once, flying QF to Perth out of Melbourne international, where the lounge attendant (to my joy) proactively offered a spa service to my partner.

As others have pointed out you will need to temper your expectations when it comes to the lounge. As I always say, Qantas First lounges are easily the best domestic lounges in Australia. Yes there is sit down dining, showers, spas (and Melbourne even has private offices you can work from), but there are thousands of lounges out there. In terms of catering I found the LATAM lounges at Santiago and São Paulo to provide far better catering than even the Qantas First despite the fact LATAM is a buffet whereas Qantas is sit down dining. Yes the atmosphere is nice, but food isn't worthy of Michelin Tires.

First host contacts the passenger one day prior to confirm details such as a spa treatment, pyjama size (if flying First or Business) as well as any requests such as requiring a quiet room in the lounge which they can reserve for you. Kerbside drop off is offered in Sydney and Melbourne (International terminals only) and for me personally this has worked, they greet you and escort to check in.
Never had anyone from QF ring/contact me about any of the above.

Number of F trips : 6
All prior to the Rona

Don’t be put off by the negative comments about the FL. It’s a great experience.

I had my first QF F experience early January 2025, paid J ( error ) fare and put in minimum $800 ish bid, accepted for both wife and myself.
I’d had a big night before in Nashville, so by time we’d boarded in LAX, I just wanted to lie down and sleep. Apon boarding my meal option was taking and I asked to have it later as I wanted sleep. 7hrs later woke and asked for my meal. Was told not available and all they had was some entree dish.
Then when dining with wife, numerous fails, like missing sides, wrong drink choices and even served out toast, no cutlery.
I sent an email off to QFF, and compensated 8k points.
I’d never worry about QF F again, our flight over in J on the 380 bulkhead seat was awesome. And being BNE based, just a better flying experience than on the 330.

You must be really unlucky, or I must be really lucky, or both, because numerous times I have asked for the steak sandwich at a time outside of "meal time" and have received it.
It is listed under "Prior to arrival" for some sectors, in addition to "To start", so whether availability is "official" is anyone's guess. Unless there is a press statement from QF that you are hiding from us 😂

I'm at almost 40 QF F segments, not that many, so there are probably plenty of others here who have flown QF F more times who can give their opinion. No doubt there are members here who are well into the hundreds of F segments.

This is not to say that my experience invalidates yours, or vice versa, but for someone reading this it is wise not to follow one report and believe it will be the guaranteed occurrence for everyone in perpetuity, that's all.

I think there's inconsistencies depending on crew. I flew F last year Lax to Syd and upon boarding I was very clear that I want to sleep straight away and happy to skip canapes and drinks etc just so I can rest after a very long previous connecting flight. The crew was great and asked if I wanted food later and I said "yes pls". They took my order and asked me if I wanted to be waken up for the food or dine whenever I get up. I said let me see how I go but please wake me up by xx time if I am not up because I do want to eat. They said thats fine but if I wake up earlier they do need 30 mins to prep the food for me. I did wake up earlier than intended and food was prepared and delivered as promised. Same thing with my plus 1 who was travelling with me. Another passenger who was first time F with Qantas, did the same and she didn't reserve food.
