Now that's an understatement. But I wouldn't mind a fleet planning job.Paul_PER said:People that do fleet planning for a living must go nuts.
<snip>
I think three (?) additional A330-200's are due in 2008 (2 to Jetstar, 1 to Qantas?).
phew!!!
Note that when the current JQ A330-200s return to QF mainline, they will be operating domestic and trans-Tasman (well, that is sort of domestic) flights. So although they will allow the retirement of some of the 767s and 743s, its not going to help with MEL-HNL.Paul_PER said:In theory as the 787-8's begin to arrive the A330-200's can shift over from Jetstar to begin replacing the 767's ..... however the 743's also need to go .... so depending on how fast the A380's arrive the 767's may be here for a while. I expect there will be a few 767's still soldiering on in 2012-2015.
Aye! And some of them are already very shabby.Paul_PER said:I expect there will be a few 767's still soldiering on in 2012-2015.
phew!!!
Good news I guess YY. QF have done 3 of the 763's and have started taking out the monitors and putting LCD screens into them. Doesn't look too bad IMO.Yada Yada said:Aye! And some of them are already very shabby.
Have they actually updated the interiors of any of the 763's yet? I've flown in a few JAL 763's that were very modern inside, so there is no reason why QF can't do this. Surely they have to?
The 738 might be "better" for a 1 hour MEL-SYD flight, but I will aways take a 767 over a 738 for a trans-continental or trans-Tasman flight. The dual aisle vs single aisle makes all the difference for a 3+ hour flight.docjames said:Most of my recent flights (MEL-Syd, and mel-bne) have been on 767, but recently got a 737-800 and the difference is AMAZING - so much quieter, seats HEAPS better.
The sooner the 767s are updated or gone, the better.
I love the 767, but it's time to go.
I've always preferred the wide-bodies but have found 737's to be fine on SYD-PER trips, especially if the middle seat is empty.NM said:The 738 might be "better" for a 1 hour MEL-SYD flight, but I will aways take a 767 over a 738 for a trans-continental or trans-Tasman flight. Qantas should have a total of 6 332's by the end of 2008 so unless they've received their second recently, hopefully 5 more will arrive. Jetstar were hoping to get the first of the 787's later this year for their long haul ops but I guess they'll have to wait a little longer. The 332's will let QF free up some of the 767's from routes like HKG and NRT in a move to 333's. The 332 will also replace the 333's on a couple of routes like BOM.

I have no problem with the 737-700 and -800 aircraft. VB's are comfortable and seat pitch is about the best in Australia. Qantas has a lot of 737 NG's in service too so it's not as if they only run widebody jets exclusively.codash1099 said:In my view, that should be "ONLY if the middle seat is empty".
Then again, I can imagine that Virgin-ophiles would see the 737 as a more than adequate aircraft no matter what.
Now there is another challenge. Does any carrier offer a 737 island hopper service SYD-LAX. Does not necessarily have to be on the one itinerary or even on the one carrier. I know Continental does the milk run to Guam but I don't think they use a 737.Yada Yada said:Now I might not want to fly in a 737 from SYD-LAX but for local flying, they are IMO just fine.

I don't mind the 737s either. They are OK for flights like SYD-PER or even LAX-IAD.
