Qantas Flight Delays

wouldn't you be P….d off , especially coming all the way from PER.

PAX are onboard! I think a small riot will be taking place right now along the lines of "You had us so close but choose to keep us onboard" I know living 15 minutes from Hornsby station that I would much rather of disembarked and taken the slow way home via train rather than stay onboard and gamble a situation such as this. But that being said I wouldn't mind a casual BNE Saturday in much the same way I scored a casual Friday in Melbourne recently compliments of Qantas. Always surprised that People don't know you are actually permitted to request any flight up to 24 hours after your diversion arrives. This combined with a late check out (I got a 4pm late check out for a 4.15 flight) from whatever hotel you are in can make for a nice day.

They will probably be all rebooked on QF8 tomorrow morning …that would be evil

QF460 pax are being bused to SYD with stop in town for those who don't need to head to the airport. No accom left in NTL apparently. QF582 had medical emergency so was refuelled at NTL and took off (advised on QF460). My partner said turbulence was very bad when landing and there have been some minor injuries including a poor guide dog that was injured during the landing attempts. Not a nice evening for some...

FWIW, NTL received a significant number of diversion aircraft this evening and ran out of gates/parking. It may well be that QF582 was not in a position to disembark anyone from the aircraft at all.

That and a lack of A330 certified stairs one thinks!

My thoughts are with everyone involved last night - it is a no win situation. Airlines are trying to get people home/to their destination as soon as possible but weather can't be controlled. But any diversion causes all sorts of issues and everyone does their best with what is available late at night.

Of course, that curfew in Sydney doesn't help..........

The QF website claims that it will land in BNE at 2330 local time (0030 AEDT).

Could the passengers have been offloaded in NTL to travel by (ugh) coach or (better) train to SYD, or will they 'enjoy' a pleasant 0200 AEDT check in to a BNE hotel courtesy of the Irish gentleman?

What difference in pleasant levels is there between the hotel checkin and having to get on the train at 2:40 in the morning?
I'd take the hotel every time...

My partner arrived at 3.30am - bus from NTL to SYD the a QF cabcharge home. Checked luggage remained on the plane as they could not offload it - the plane is being flown back to SYD today where QF will then ship out luggage.

A second SYD airport will at least give better diversion options when it comes down to weather...

a syd second airport will probably be slapped with a cufew as well..some group will complain that their cows/sheep/horses are being disturbed by the new airport noise..

Just watched the news coverage - kudos to 9, told the facts as they were. The passenger they interviewed was full of praise for the crew and wasnt over dramatic. 7 on the other hand got the "I thought we were going to die" passengers for the drama.

No mention of the role of the curfew played in the whole night

caught a glimpse on tv of the female pilot on the flight...i've met/flown with the lady ...she's a great person and a very 'no BS' person..nothing but praise for her from me... fell free to 'tie' this in with another thread on this forum..something to do with 'feeling less safe with female pilots in control':confused:

Why would channel 9 say "landed at a military airport in Newcastle"?

* edit - realised that this was a bit too much of an open question. I live in Newcastle and am familiar with the airport, yes it is a military airport, but it is also operates as a regular commercial airport. It seems very odd to me, except from a sensational viewpoint.

Technically it is. Civil terminal side is still owned by the military i believe, just civil access granted allowing civil movements.

I'm assuming you've never had the 'pleasure' of travelling on the ****kansen between Newcastle and Sydney? For starters, NTL is 15km from the rail line, meaning all pax would need a coach to get there in the first place!

At 0240, the train would be full of drunks returning from a night out and the homeless (a sad reflection), taking 3 hours to travel the grand total of 160km.

As mentioned NTL only has regular 737/320 ops, so ground facilities for the 330 would not be in place.

And the racial slur is just wrong - Joyce is just as much an Australian as you and I

status_seeker, actually I have been between Sydney and Newcastle (and beyond) numerous times by train. I have even used a public bus (which does not operate late at night) to get from NTL airfield to the eponymous railway station. By the way, it's normally a pleasant trip through Gosford, although granted the 'small hours' train is far from the fastest to ply the route.

True, there are some obnoxious passengers using trains, just like there are plenty of drivers on the roads whose driving skills may not be great, or who (sadly) may be drug affected (including alcohol).

In the end, QF provided buses. Belatedly, this Fairfax report appeared:

Two hurt as planes diverted from Sydney airport

It's been a well read article since appearing late this afternoon.

Some would always prefer an hotel checkin, but others may need to be (in this case) in SYD at the crack of dawn for work, family or leisure commitments.

It's unclear what happened to any diverted JQ passengers.

There is nothing wrong with the curfew. Small price to pay for living in the best city in the world.

What you should have said was "Wouldn't it be nice if the curfew can be relaxed slightly in times of emergency."

Are these people that complain about airport noise any different to the people who complain their curtains will fade or the cows wont know what time to eat if they bring in daylight saving?
