Actually, I'll rephrase that ...

QFF are not going to make it obvious to the general public that some of their members may get better/cheaper access to their awards than others.

IMHO, any such action would displease those CC companies and point partners who pay the program for the QFF points credited to their customers QFF accounts.

A bit like walking a tight rope really.

Hi guys,

With the Qantas "Any seat reward" am I right in understanding that it expands its seat availability to all Qantas flights including all QF codeshare flights (on non-Qantas metal)?

There are some QF flights thst exist (like SIN-BOM), but these cities are not available on the "anyseat" drop-down menus. Does this mean that this route cannot be redeemed, or that it needs to be done via Telephone?
As much as I love quoting myself to improve my post count , can anyone answer the questions?

browski,

I have no idea of the real answer other than the example you give (SYD-BOM) is not available in the 'Classic Awards' drop down either.

Update....

BOM is listed under both lot of rewards but listed (appropriately) as Mumbai.

Only Qantas can answer that one, I expect. You might need to pick up the phone and ask, or drop them an email and wait.

Interestingly enough, I just received an invite to do a survey for QF...

Qantas has commissioned The Leading Edge*, an independent market research company, to conduct a study into the needs and opinions of Qantas Frequent Flyer members.

We want to continuously improve how we service and support you through this program and the aim of the study is to improve our understanding of what you think about the Qantas Frequent Flyer program and any program enhancements that are currently under development.

On the "Any Seat Awards" ,if you have SIN as your departure city then Mumbai is not available. If you have an Oz departure then Mumbai is there (with the PER-SIN and codeshare SIN-BOM flights)

Might give them a call - or maybe Any Seat awards are still a work in progress and it will be included on-line at a later date.

More likely the last is appropriate. They possibly will not have noticed until you give them the wake up call.

It is obvious that this is purely a money-making scam dressed up as an enhancement.

Previously Qantas had been hauled over the coals for selling billions of points that would either expire due to lack of seats or be slowly eroded by the increase in redemption costs and "taxes". They have now solved that problem by offering an open system but with the catch of an exponential scale in the number of points required.

So people who put megabucks through their CC at someone else's expense won't really care because the points are costing them nothing. The CC company won't care about the bucks they pay Qantas for the points as they cream even more off the retailers, and Qantas have in a single day probably doubled the value of the QFF scheme and will be looking for a buyer as soon as the dust settles.

So for a "normal" punter like myself (who earns a modicum of points through buying and flying), at best there is nothing in it ... and at worst the "Classic" seats will be screwed back even further, as the ACCC can't quibble about availability any more.

I fear the next "Award" holiday to the UK (in September) may well be my last, and a switch to Virgin looks like a better and better option.

Cheers,

Andrew

It could also be a traffic restriction (the QF flights only serve the India - Australia markets)

One of the better written articles I've read on the changes. Not too many facts but not really full of emotion either.

Amazing really.

I think it is just clarifying what we know has been existing practice, and certainly goes something toward rewarding those that actually fly.

Yeahbut... points earned by flying are a function of the fare paid per km or sector and not merely the kilometres travelled. To reward those who actually fly would really mean only counting the km's and not factor in the prices paid for those km's.

I fly probably more sectors as a silver QFF who buys cheapest fares than many Gold or possibly plat's or pay full economy - and that's fine.

Went to online store to have a look and Useless!
Nothing comes up to look at accept at the bottom of the page?
How do you see whats up for grabs?
Is this an IE 7 thing as using IE 6?

Using Mozilla Firefox V 2.0.0.15 and Internet Explorer 7.0.6 it comes up OK for me.

Logically, Qantas should reward Gold and Platinum FFs by offering greater availability of classic award seats... it shouldn't reflect kms travelled. Someone flying on more expensive fares contributes far more to Qantas' profitability than those (like me) travelling frequently on cheap fares. They're the people Qantas most needs to retain. And not doing a great job based on feedback in this thread :-)

From the point of view of point earning, miles are a bigger contributor than the $ paid. While there is a relationship between miles and dollars paid, in the same class, bear in mind that the points earned for flying in business or first do not reflect the additional $$ paid over a discount economy fare.

Well, since full Y earns 2x SCs over cheap fares, someone who flew exclusively on full Y fares on exactly the same sectors as you would only be Gold (since Gold requires 2x SCs over Silver). It would be impossible to make Plat. To make Plat they would have to fly 2x as many sectors as you.

Interesting to note the penultimate sentence in a report in yesterday's "Australian":

"Mr. Dixon said the enhancements to the program were designed to make it more attractive as a stand-alone business."

That explains the reasoning behind the changes. You don't make a business more attractive by increasing the give-aways.
