Qantas Frequent Flyer Overnight Outage 24-25 January

It is quite possible and probable to have a technical upgrade that has nothing to do with a change of business practices. Most of those would be front end software changes that don’t require the site to be shut down.
It was just a Salesforce or iFly system upgrade/update. Not much else to it, yet.

I just landed in Melbourne as PC+ with a reward booking, and have no SCs credited yet in my statement.

absolutely agree. Could just have been hardware (if not virtual environments) and/or OS and underlying system upgrades and patches sure. I've done more than my fair share of these types of "maintenance" which have zero effect or change on anything functional.

of course this could also have included underlying application upgrades that *could* support new functionality down the line.

Since none of us have visibility on what actually was the purpose of this outage it's just speculation of course.. certainly not assumption or jumping to conclusions on my part.

Thanks @TheInsider - that's interesting.

So an upgrade to such software, could definitely be a platform for further functionality changes down the track as much as just keeping things current (which is a good idea of course for many reasons).

Its the past performance that informs the speculation.

Can you imagine a thread here in response to announced downtime for maintenance when everyone is speculating about which new great functionality will be added?

And its not really required is it? For an international flight, you will always have to slide your passport over the counter at check in.
Some places like the US do require APIS (the Advance in APIS) for data matching and the like. I know in theory they can still do this at check in since, well, you are still over 12 hours from arriving there.

interestingly this document from CBP does say APIS is required to be transkitted post check in, so in theory yeah you probably don't need to provide it before check in.

Though today I got the usual email for my card offers and as usual clicked on the see more button and once logged in not usual result instead said you have no current offers.

So I checked in to my flight (international) this morning using the app, and the APIS data i entered earlier today (pre-check in opening) was displayed and I was asked to reconfirm it was correct before being able to continue (cant say I've noticed that before).

FYI I'm flying to NZ, the APIS only wanted DOB, Passport #, Gender and expiry date - not the address and contact number info they ask for if USA is destination.

I still plan to go to the counter to get a boarding pass (and possibly check luggage haven't decided on that yet). But if I go HLO and digital boarding pass I dont think anyone would scan my passport until security.

App or website or both? Perhaps try logging out and back in? I’d probably clear cache/cookies….?

App works, desktop no despite already trying those tricks you mentioned. I haven’t tried it again since yesterday.

IIRC QF used to not icket US bound trips until some APIS data was entered? Not sure if this is still a thing as I tend to do it when I book as a matter of course. I do recall one time I didn't put it in and got an email a few hours later reminding me to put the data in before ticketing would be completed.

They still do. When I was rebooked on an LAX-SFO tag flight (after SYD-SFO was cancelled) the QF agent needed at least DOB to ticket the AS flight (081- stock).
