For at least two decades, Qantas have used gates at Hong Kong Airport nearer their lounges.

These are generally numbered in the mid to high teens.

This weekend l have been travelling to/from on QF and have been surprised at the gate being assigned for both my flights being well up the central pier.

One saving grace is that the CX "Pier" is closer to gate 31 than the QF lounge.

It'll be interesting to know if this is a permanent or temporary change.

This has been happening for as long as I can remember.

From memory the BNE flights were mainly departing from the gats around 28-30. My last couple of QF flights to SYD have been departing from around gate 30.

Perhaps prioritising the 'teens' Gates for A380s - was your flight on an A330 or B747?

I wonder if it's a financial thing. Some airlines always have the same gates (eg: sq and KL) while others are all over the place.

I see most of the flights depart from gate 15 to 34.. so it is in the central corridor area..

The length of the walk between the furthest gates from each other in that group (19 & 34) is over 1000 metres.

At its northern end the QF lounge overlooks gate 19.

I arrived on QF128 this morning. We departed from gate 22.
I tried the Pier. It was a 10min hike down to the CX Pier First rather than the QF lounge. Should had headed to the airport earlier to make proper use of it.
While CX The Cabin is probably closer to gate 22 than the QF lounge i wouldnt say that it was that far away.

I have been on QF128 when it left from gate 15 and i could still access QF lounge wifi while waiting to board.

Flew out of HKG on QF30 on 30April and only had about a 3 minute walk from the lounge. We did dine at the pier beforehand just to keep in touch.

Gate 44 for QF128 tonight. Long walk in a few minutes from QF lounge.

If not sure of the gate, maybe use the Wing First instead of Qantas lounge if you don't want to go all the way to the Pier? No spa but real champagne, beats Qantas :)
Just use the left side Customs instead of the right side for Qantas :)

QF lounge is more than adequate. Beef penang curry quite tasty. And I did learn a trick about using the right immigration as it comes out just outside QF lounge.

P.S. BNE flight also departed gate 41 and MEL flight was around gate 25.

Adequate maybe.. just. in the same league as CX F lounges absolutely not.. The QF hkg lounge is a poor choice for a WP, CX might be a bit of a walk from the qf gates but it's worth it.
