A gift voucher creates an PNR, which to AMEX appears as if the transaction was made for a flight booking.

Gotta be quick on AFF. I was writing something similar to this!

While confident it will work, hard to complain if refused.

A no brainer to combine this with the $700 Amex spend for the $150 statement credit.

How would Amex know if a PNR was created or not?

I mean it might work, knock yourselves out, but the T&C's specifically say it excludes gift vouchers.

Ok, I've just bought 1 x $200 and 2 x $250, and I know who to blame if the credit doesn't come through :)

Your correct in the wording in the T&C's, although you will find dozens of people here on AFF who know from past experience that AMEX does pay out of Qantas Gift Vouchers.

Not to labour the question, but doesn't the one transaction need to be $700+ to get the deal?

EDIT: the answer:
  • Save the offer to your eligible Card and spend $700 or more on that Card, in one or more transactions, on flights only at qantas.com by 20/12/2016 to receive one $150 credit. Limited to the first 20,000 Cards to save the offer.

No, two separate transactions.

Seems to me flight gift certs bought online via QF show transactions as being straight QANTAS AIRWAYS like any other flight booking, so from the merchant I am not sure how they (AMEX) could tell, unless there was something in the transaction id or something. At least with the hotels, epiqure etc they are different merchants.

I can see why Gift Vouchers would work. :) I'm willing to give it a go anyway

Correct. Although if the T&C's aren't to be relied upon then who really knows ;)

The wording of "$700 or more..in one or more transactions" is confusing. I took it to mean you had to spend a total of over $700 which could be one transaction or more than one.
The wording is the same on their Marriott and Hilton offers. But for a lesser amount.
Maybe one of the members who took advantage of those offers could give us guidance as to how they earned their cash back.

An AFF member posted (think it was LTL?) in the new Amex offers thread that they have received the congrats email after making multiple purchases that added up to $700+

After you Spend $700+ with QF (assuming you registered) you will get the statement credit. The spend can be in one go or a few

...
I have seen that wording many times - it has always represented total spend of the target figure or higher, regardless of the number of transactions or if there were any less than the figure.

So 2 x $350 or 1 x $700 would both qualify.

Just for my info.
If I buy the gift card say in the name of my wife.
Can she then buy tickets as per the rules for herself only or can she use the vouchers to buy tickets for her friends or even me ?
