G'day, hopefully someone on here can answer this, not got much advice from Qantas or LAN.

On Feb 18 we are on QF 321, codeshare - operated by LAN from Sydney to Santiago SCL, purchased the flights on Qantas ff points, got Qantas booking number. Have a 3 hour window at Santiago then onto LAN 445 to Buenos Aires EZE, purchased that ticket through LAN. We just want to transit airside at Santiago and thus check our baggage through at Sydney Airport. Qantas said 'Ask at Airport, up to them. LAN, I could not understand the staff member.

Do you reckon we could get our boarding passes for the LAN flight, SCL to EZE in Sydney?

Also..do you reckon I will be able to check our luggage through from Sydney to BA as above if Qantas/LAN have the interline agreement as One World partners?

Thanks in anticipation.:!:

Baggage shouldn't be a problem. BPs might not be possible though.

You are booked on LAN from SYD to SCL (sold as QF321) so you would be checking in at the LAN Counter who would definitely be able to through check your bags through to EZE. It's really a question for LAN as QF are not operating either of the flights.

Even if SYD/SCL was QF metal they could still through check to LA on separate pnrs as both airlines are in the OneWorld Alliance.

As per previous post, as both flights are operated by LAN, any questions should be directed to LAN, QF correct is not being able to confirm as ultimately non of this business.

Having said that, there should be no issues to get baggage checked through.

Thanks for replies, so my baggage should be ok to be checked through from Syd to BA, via SCL. Another reason we want to transit only SCL is to avoid the Reciprocity Fee of $95 at SCL. So if my baggage is tagged through to BA by LAN and I get our boarding passes SCL to BA on LAN 445 via on line check prior to departing Syd for SCL, everything should be OK?

If you can get your onward boarding passes and be a transit pax you should be ok, if not transit then you would need to clear customs. If so, do you have a NZ passport you could clear customs with as they do not pay the fee

Not a Kiwi mate, Aussie passport. I have a few options re boarding passes to avoid customs and $95 reciprocity fee x 2, I intend to either get my boarding pass for LA445 SCL to BA, on line just before I fly out of Sydney, at the check in for my codeshare Qantas/LAN flight (they use LAN check in at Sydney Airport as it is a LAN aircraft)) if not at LAN counter, airside - transit area at SCL. LAN allow on line check in for boarding passes 48 hours before flight.

Crossing my fingers..thanks for your advice, happy new year.

I don't think you'll have any problems getting both your LAN boarding passes from LAN checkin in SYD. The only airline I know of who won't through check to their own flights on separate pnrs is Air NZ.

Even if they can tag the bags through to EZE but not issue the 2nd boardibg pass you would still be classed as a transit pax then get the SCL/EZE boarding pass from the transit desk in SCL.

It's always good to have a plan B in any case.

Thanks Oz Beach Babe, it should work out for us then, with those options.

It is the start of a 3 month adventure, land travel in Argentina, inc Iguazu Falls, 31 day cruise around South America, BA to LA on Golden Princess, then fly to LHR on Air NZ, land travel by car in UK, then 18 day Med cruise on Arcadia, then home on Qantas. Away mid Feb-mid May.

Thanks again, makes us feel a little easier.

Sounds great safe travels !

LAN have online checkin I think, so that may be an option for you to get your boarding passes in hand earlier.

You will certainly enjoy Iguazu Falls. I was there in September, make sure you do both sides of the falls. One tip, take a water proof camera with you (you will get wet if you really want to experience the falls). I bought an el-cheapo ($75) off ebay before I went with the intension of using it, downloading everything onto my ipad and then throwing it. It did the job and saved my $800 camera from getting wet.

i transited SYD-SCL-LIM on QF27 then LAN and they couldn't check the bags through as I had already checked in with LAN to get my seat selection. At SCL there is a transfer desk before immigration and they transfered my bags and gave me my boarding passes to LIM without me passing through immigration. The flights were also on different PNR.

We certainly had no issue with the reverse (EZE-SCL-AKL-BNE) with bags through checked all the way to BNE. I cant see any reason why LAN wont through-check.
