QantasLink launches multiple new Darwin routes


The regional carrier has also announced three new domestic routes from Darwin to Canberra, Cairns and Townsville, all to be performed also on its new E190 fleet.

Qantas has also announced Darwin will become a new jet base for its growing E190 fleet. The Flying Kangaroo is currently operating five Alliance E190s under the arrangement, however, has planned to operate at least eight as domestic demand grows.

QantasLink is also to begin regular international hops to Timor-Leste on its Embraer E190s initially operating three flights per week to Dili on its E190s, ramping up to five flights each week from July.

Qantas has been operating weekly flights between Darwin and Dili since February 2021 in partnership with the Australian government, in order to “maintain critical passenger and freight links with Timor-Leste”, however, this service is now planned to ramp up and become a permanent commercial route.

Whilst not showing on the QANTAS website (flight status) for some reason, Wednesdays Townsville flight and today and tomorrows Carins flight have been cancelled as well as the scrapping of the Tuesday CNS flight for a while anyways. Nonetheless my point stands that the flights don’t seem to be going to well for them yet.

Indeed, had 2 cancelled and rebooked via BNE on QF826. I believe most are cancelled through to October. TSV routes cancelled till then too and DRW-ADL swapped to main line.

A UK recruitment agency, claiming to operate on behalf of Alliance Airlines, is offering British pilots major perks to fly the carrier’s E190s, including ‘serviced apartments’ and Qantas flights back home.

Can they not just pay Oz crews 10% more to stop the shedding of bodies? Is it really that hard? No lets not do that, burn millions while everyone leaves, pay millions more getting Poms out here, then hope the problem goes away soon after.

While the big guys ( for big aircraft) are hiring will always be a movement of people small-->big. And for some people (~family) living in a major city is better than living in the bush/small regional towns.

While true - they shut down a perfectly good base (717) with long term NT residents to reduce costs and now Alliance (flying the same routes) are loosing staff by the day to the point where the base is not viable.
