Re: QF Introduces Upgrade Bidding

Is there scope for a thread to document successful / unsuccessful bids? I'm guessing members could screen cap their offers and post the results?

I feel a Google Spreadsheet coming on. Where is JessicaTAM when you need her :)??

Re: QF Introduces Upgrade Bidding

Yep what are max points and least money for upgrade? Does it change depending on loads on flight?

Re: QF Introduces Upgrade Bidding

Add my vote for a spreadsheet, unless there is someway to add a wiki entry.

In either case sorted by route.

I wonder what will be offered if there are more than one in the PNR and only one has any status...

Happy wandering

Re: QF Introduces Upgrade Bidding

This becomes quite a lot of screen shots and uploading. I guess it could just be done as text in a post, which is how xASA thread started before morphing into a Google Spreadsheet.

Actually I think you're right. The spreadsheet would be better for reporting purposes.

Re: QF Introduces Upgrade Bidding

Most people would be afraid of the truth and reality in this statement, but the best way to overcome this issue is to bid at the time of booking.
If flying J is important enough to you, then maybe more effort should be put in to do the above.

Re: QF Introduces Upgrade Bidding

Expect QF to now resemble AA/UA/DL etc where every premium seat is full....

That depends. Is this a segue for an equivalent of AA's 'first with restrictions' fare, which I find seems to be priced at or less than 2x Y? Or for 500-mile (point) upgrades for status members?

Or comp-upgrades for everyone from PS and upwards (actually, that's AS, but on-topic)...

Re: QF Introduces Upgrade Bidding

Sorry, realised I missed a point in the above: depends on whether qantas introduce instant upgrade fares such as p class on AA etc.

I think you'll find its one in all in... For example if there are 5 people in the booking, the one PNR, and say the two parents want to upgrade, then they won't be allowed because it would mean splitting the booking. Everyone on the booking must bid as one PNR.

Re: QF Introduces Upgrade Bidding

So has anyone got an offer yet???

Just got an offer for my VA flight to the FT AGM ($180-400) 9 days out.
Waiting on my QF offer.

And to answer wandering fred's question about multiple pax on the same booking.
From the FAQ
No, you must make an upgrade offer for all passengers in your booking. You cannot split the booking.
If you are a Qantas Frequent Flyer member, you must state the relationship between you and the other passengers in the booking. If the other passengers in the booking are not Eligible Family Members you cannot make an upgrade offer.
If your upgrade offer is accepted, all passengers will be upgraded and the nominated payment card will be charged and (if appropriate) Qantas Points will be deducted from your Qantas Frequent Flyer Account.

Re: QF Introduces Upgrade Bidding

I will be watching with interest to see what my chances may be.

Re: QF Introduces Upgrade Bidding

If this is done well it could be both a useful supplemental revenue stream for QF and result in little noticeable difference to people trying to get upgrades through the current means (except maybe op ups which are as rare as hen's teeth in my experience).

I would hope that the big ticket worry for QF will be to get the balance right between squeezing revenue out of otherwise unoccupied seats and making sure that there are always seats available for last minute full ($) fare paying J/F pax to get their hands on (whether by way of last minute booking or turning up at the airport a couple of hours early because your meeting was cancelled and you want to get on the next flight).

One of the truly irritating things with Jetstar is that they don't hold back a few window or aisle seats for last minute fare purchases. If you book at the last minute (day of the flight) and pay full fare, you can be pretty much guaranteed a middle seat which on say a SYD-DRW or a SYD-CNS or similar stage length where there are few alternatives is very unpleasant.

Re: QF Introduces Upgrade Bidding

It'd be interesting to read if anyone's points upgrade didn't happen but someone else posted their bid did on the same flight. Murphy's law and all that.

But we've been assured by Red Roo that this wouldn't occur...

There seems to be a few recurring questions around the impact of Bid Now Upgrades on Classic Upgrade Rewards (note the new name :). Bid Now Upgrade requests will be processed and confirmed after requests for classic upgrades and classic upgrades are still your best value option with the highest priority. We'll continue to check for classic upgrade requests within 24 hours of departure. There will be no change to the the On Departure Upgrade product and it will still be subject to availabilityThe Bid Now Upgrade FAQs should help you to understand our new upgrade option.

Then again, we were assured that JASA's were here to stay....
