Qantas LAX First Lounge

Return visit. More S&P squid (delicious), the stir fried pork was VERY HOT in the spicy sense. Waitress took pity on me and kept the water topped up! Dessert delicious too.

No problem getting a margarita (was on a roll after coming in from Vegas so kept them coming) for all those wondering about the off-menu coughtail options.

I’m flying out of LAX this Friday night on QF. As a World Platinum I’ll have access to the First lounge at LAX. However when I view more info about the lounge on the QF Mobile app it says it is temporarily closed:

Could someone who has visited the QF F lounge at LAX within the past week or so comment on whether this is in fact the case?

I was there about 2 weeks ago and it was fully operational, and quite nice it was too just quietly. Interestingly, my wife had a P1 guest pass and I had nothing but we both got in. It sure surprised me but it just shows what can happen when the stars align. (DM me if you want the full story).

Plating is not as good as in SYD, but here is a sample of the food for LAX F in August:

Salt n Pepper Squid (very small portion)

Sea Bass ...

Disappointing as overcooked, almost "tough".

Not sure if the former begat the latter or vv.

Potato salad ..

It was not bad, nice and light. The flavour of the garnish on top I found interesting. It was decribed on asking as 'fried shallots'.

Roast Chicken ... it seemed a variation on the Apricot Chicken of the recent "50th anniversary of lounges".

In any case it tasted fine, the breast was perhaps overdone but the moist puree worked well.

The Avacado on toast with poached eggs was very nice, eggs cooked perfectly.

The toast was sliced thinly which was a good thing as it took an effort to carefully cut it.

Crispy toast can be a nightmare!! First world problem of course but once toast cools down & the crust hardens, it’s a tough job if eggs are not runny to give some moisture 😳🫣😂

Perhaps they could send the chef to the SYD and MEL lounges who don't know how to poach eggs. They're always hard on the inside, not nice and runny!

IME SYD is the complete opposite in that the poached eggs are always undercooked with the white of the egg still clear... yuck.

On arrival, no hot food available as the gas lines to the kitchen were out. Leaving me with the smoked salmon potato salad. Which was very nice. Happily the situation was rectified and I followed up with the salt and pepper squid and minute steak. Squid good, steak overcooked (requested medium rare), but the chipotle butter was a winner.
