Qantas are offering a 40000/50000 reward points if you pay the $895 refer another person you get 10000 which=the 50,000.
We have a RTW trip later this year, using our ff points. We are flying Cathay, finair, and Cathay from Rome Hong Kong.
qantas flights domestically. By my calculation 50,000 points will get me a return trip to a few places inAsia or Townsville to Perth. Therefore my lounge pass would cost me $95.
Have I worked this out rationally
would I be able to use the pass flying with the other airlines. The booking codes are CX (Cathay flights)
none are QX flights.
thanks mystic

Unfortunately no, you would not be able to access any lounges other than before the domestic Qantas flights.

We have begun one of the biggest Qantas Points giveaways ever offered for joining the Qantas Club. Frequent Flyer members who join before 19 February will be rewarded with 40,000 Qantas Points. Those refer a friend, and they join, will be given an additional 10,000 Qantas Points while their referred friend will also receive an additional 10,000. The offer is available when signing up at Join Qantas Club and earn Qantas Points | Qantas

As opusman says above, Qantas Club membership is not compatible with CX flights. To gain lounge access for those flights you'll either need to be flying in Business class or above, have attained OneWorld Sapphire membership with a OneWorld airline (Gold in Qantas) or be a Silver member in CX's own scheme. Probably also a few other ways, you might even get lounge access through a credit card, but the Qantas Club membership wont help you gain access to lounges when travelling with CX.

Red roo- Is it possible to purchase during the promotion and not take it up till gold status expires mid-year?

QP membership is put on hold automatically if you gain SG or above, so presumably the reverse is true if you take out membership while already gold.

either way, 40,000 points for $900 is pretty good

Which could cost you over $300 in taxes to use, for a flight award.

The better credit card signup deals gave you more than that number of points for a third of the price.

who uses points for award seats?

upgrades is the best use

and yes some CC deals are better , but this does also give lounge access for a year

i think its a good deal for people who won't make gold

Even at a very generous 2c / pt it's still not worth $900 unless you're going to get some use out of the lounge as well.

But you can buy a toaster from QPoints for the 40k I expect. Or maybe some overshoes to wear over your thongs when you next go to the QP.

overshoes lol

its 4 business upgrades on east-west domestic (5 if a friend joins) + lounge access

i still think its not too bad, especially in these stingy times where airlines are winding back benefits/freebies/status etc-

Australia's highest-earning Velocity Frequent Flyer credit card: Offer expires: 21 Jan 2025
- Earn 60,000 bonus Velocity Points
- Get unlimited Virgin Australia Lounge access
- Enjoy a complimentary return Virgin Australia domestic flight each year

AFF Supporters can remove this and all advertisements

I did a dummy try and site declines application due to being a current gold ff with complimentry access
And you are surprised? :)

Looks like qantas can get this part of their web services correct even if they can't handle QPoints being used with DJs.

Encouraging new QP memberships by offering 40,000 QFF points. So, maybe there is no more overcrowding and WP ATA access can start again. :p

If ATA were to be reintroduced you can be almost certain it would only be for WP1...

I imagine the overshoes would prevent any spats about about whether or not you're properly dressed. ;)

In my world, spats would constitute correct dress!!

Just to clarify, this offer is not exclusive to current Frequent Flyer members. Those who join the Qantas Club receive complimentary Frequent Flyer membership.

who uses points for award seats?

upgrades is the best use

Until recently most people on this forum used points for award seats (see JASA's / mASA's)
Even classic award seats are an ideal way of using points if you want to confirm the class of travel at the time of booking.
There are some other perks to using a classic award over upgrades, for example classic awards let you pick your seat at time of booking, where as upgrades leave you to fight with the others for the left over seats.
