Sorry, but I take offence to the "retard" reference. I have a daughter with "special needs" (Downs Syn) and she has many times been to the F lounges worldwide, with the staff many times chatting to her. Suggest a better selection of words next time........

Sorry, but I take offence to the "retard" reference.

Don't become an Airline Pilot then. The '380 calls out retard just before landing (to the pilots, in the flight deck, not like over the PA).

I'm pretty sure he's not taking a shot at you, nor am I. But no matter what term he uses someone is likely to take offence. Idiot? Moron? Then someone (or there family) with an IQ less than (insert appropriate IQ here) takes offence.

Retard is simply to delay or hold back. When I used to play with V8s and engines still had distributors, advance and retard were terms used all the time.

I questioned the lounge staff in BNE, since I wear silk tank tops, or sleeveless shift dresses for work. The Lounge angel/devil said that as long as you don't look like you would wear it to the beach, it would be ok. Same went for footwear...

I'm not a suit and not a beach bum, but somewhere in between.
I would have to say wearing a singlet, stubbies and thongs is way below acceptable levels.
Men's shirts should cover shoulders. Perhaps a sandwich board (like the Adelaide Oval members) can have a pictorial representation of acceptable dress. After all the QF club is a members club with standards. Just because you're in the club doesn't entitle you to do whatever you like. QF need to pick their act up in policing it.

Qantas does not need to employ staff members to enforce dress standards, there are a few people here who appear ready, willing and able to do so on their behalf - and at not cost too, surely a win-win. The last thing I worry about when I am at the lounge, any lounge, is caring what other folks are wearing. It's either the start of a new day, new destination and I am looking forward to it, OR it's the end of the day and I just want to get home in reasonable comfort. If I am a too involved in or caring what others are wearing, then I am either way too bored and have too much time on my hands.

Noted in past 2 weeks. Well known (NRL) footy show host boards a Qantas flight in shorts T and thongs - looked grotty . 2. a lady trying to get an "at gate" upgrade wearing a very nice pair of demin jeans was refused "because you are wearing denim" . what would have happened if she had bought a ticket or checked in on line ?? PS Im a fan of neat casual - which for those who dont get it - means no thongs or singlets or dirty ripped clothes. The T&C actually are quite clear. Snobish ? No but it is a club we all earn or pay for . If you dont want to look a little classy there is a whole airport to be bogan in .

You may find the lady asking for the upgrade was using staff travel, which denim is a definite no-no.

Typically Slobs and Snobs are in close proximity and are in closer proximity at airports. Typically they treat each other with disdain.

This is just a way of separating the two in a more or less socially acceptable way as airlines are not a social engineering company seeking to redefine the usual dichotomy - they just seek to exploit such differences in human behaviour and expectation to the benefit of the bottom line.

Companies have long recognised that it is impossible to be everything to everyone, so they tailor their products and services to target certain demographics. Qantas is no different.
