Any idea when the SYD domestic lounges will reopen?

Technically they could right now provided they follow the 1 person per 4sqm and also check peoples vaccination status on entry. However there are still very limited flights because whilst Sydney is open, there are still restrictions on regional intrastate travel.

When SYD reaches 80% then intrastate travel will resume and I suspect the Sydney to Byron route will be quite busy so it might make sense then. Because current estimates say that 25 October will be the 80% day I'd assume it'll be at least 2 more weeks before it opens.

SYD-BNK has three flights next Friday (22 Oct) - people in the regions can travel now, so even if Sydney itself can't travel, people will start flying soon.

It seems odd that on 22nd and the 24th there are three flights and then as expected everything jumps on the 25th.

Something that I've not been able to answer is that are people in regional areas allowed to transit Sydney airport?

There are no Qantas operated services in/out of OOL right now hence the closure.

I believe the VA lounge at OOL is also closed as well due to low patronage on the limited VA services to/from OOL.
Virgin is definitely closed out of OOL. Couldn't even find a human at the check in zone! Ghost town...

Hopefully that'll change. VA have been operating skeleton flights to/from Sydney/Melbourne.

Some more flights are expected to Cairns and Tasmania soon and maybe the lounge will open then.

Anybody know if there other arrangements in place at Syd T1 for other airlines who’d usually use the Qantas lounges? Or is it just Maccas?

The Qantas First Lounge will reopen on 1 November, albeit most likely just in the afternoon/evening initially. Eligible passengers on other oneworld/partner airlines (e.g. QR) should also have access to the lounge if it's open at the time of their flight's departure.

Yah saw that. Probably out of luck for morning departures then.

The AA Flagship lounge is closed in LAX also...

I can't see the regular AA lounges (and AS now too) being sufficient once QF starts flying. Either the flagship lounge or the J lounge will have to open.

BA are currently using the star alliance lounge.

Any predictions on MEL F lounge?. Keen to finally use my (matched) QR OWE status for a trip in December.
HKG currently only has Pier J lounge open for transit passengers so will probably miss Pier F too :(

Any predictions on MEL F lounge?
Pure speculation hat but probably not until QF flights resume. At this stage 7:40pm QF9 MEL-LHR (via DRW) isn't scheduled to start until 18 December and 11:25pm MEL-LAX the following day. There will also be a 12:10pm flight to Singapore on some days (M, Tu, Th, Sa). What's unclear is if the lounge will stay open for other oneworld partners such as QR/FJ.

Even then I wouldn't bet on it, Cathay operate out of MEL at 1am and 3:40pm and have their own lounge so they might use it instead.

I really hope that QF do not open the SYD J lounge before our flight at the beginning of march - would give us our first and only chance to visit the F lounge. 🤞

So do I before my Feb flights, but I fully expect QF will be spurting their flying 110% pre-pandemic levels & JQ 130% or so, & warrant opening all lounges.

Listed company remember so have to appease the shareholders with these type of media ann's (through appropriate channels of course).

I think it will open well before then. AA flights are in the morning and there's no way they'll get away with not opening for them now the JV is in place. It's going to get busy pretty quickly once you start adding in BA, QR, CK, MH, FJ etc

Annoyingly they were going to upgrade the J lounge and they've had two years to do it whilst it's been closed, but I suspect they've done nothing.

Alternatively they might split the Flounge in two sections and restrict the premium dining to Flounge guests (similar to how the AA Flagship works - everyone can enter, but only first class can go to the dining room).

I would expect J reopens in November, given there will be more QF and Partner flights with passengers

Any news on when the domestic lounges in Sydney and Melbourne will be opening? November 1 would make sense, but nothing has been announced?
