It's the time of year you often see this happen - It's 'Upgrade Season'!

The proportion of PAX travelling in WHY compared to the premium cabins increases greatly this time of year. So Qantas will sell many of the pointy end seats for WHY fares; deciding on the day (and at the gate if necessary) who to give them to (generally those with Status).
not likely to help me next week. J already sold out and plenty of discount Y seats for sale. So not much chance of my QFF account being decreased by 40,000 points.

NM,

You never know when the fairies will smile upon you. Just tell them that you now have 8000 posts on AFF and that will make all the difference.

Assuming LOTFAP given the 40k point UG?
nope, 40K does not get one from a B fare in J cabin to LOTFAP. 40K is for a Zone 5 upgrade (3601-4800 miles).

At least a B fare booking class earns the same AA EQP as a J or even an F fare basis. And its a daytime flight so I am sure I will cope, especially have just survived the overnight flight in the other direction earlier in the week.
