Qantas mag goes against the trend

The Qantas In-Flight Magazine can assist me understand just how much flying I do in any given month. I know i have flown to much when I have the crossword completed before the doors close. And if I have the two sudokus completed as well I know its close to the end of the month.

Its sad when the only way I know we are in a new month is because there is a new crossword in the magazine.

The inflight magazine is useful to pass the time on some flights. It would be a shame if it was no longer on board.

I am not surprised that CL and Platinums make up about 1% of all QFF members. Now is it 50,000 or 60,000 CL and Platinums? If there are 5 million QFF members then 60,000 CL and Platinums make up 1.2% of all QFF members which is still about 1% of all QFF members for reporting purposes.

The new magazine, Air, is square in size (smaller than A5 in height but probably a bit wider). The first edition doesn't have many pages and really struck me as more of an advertising booklet with a few articles more than anything. It's printed on recycled paper, not the glossy stuff in The Australian Way.

I take it yours arrived in the mail today :)

I wish! I'm still hoping I'm included on the mailing list. Although conjecture seems to be the top 1% of frequent flyers, I have reason to believe it maybe only the top 1% of the top tier frequent flyers. The maths on this, though, would suggest it wouldn't be worth putting a magazine together.

Indeed, I can see that unless it had a distribution of 50,000 or so it may not be worthwhile, so this would need all the WP + CL.

Any ideas when this magnificent tome will hit our mailbox?

I'm wondering if it will compare in any way with Monocle (which is also printed on recycled paper)?

Mine arrived yesterday, much to my surprise.

Not my sort of mag, nothing really special imo, just a different format and styling with advertisements for items I could never afford.....

Same here - found two copies (wife's and mine) in the mailbox this morning.

Very 'design trendy' layout eg front cover with SpotUV printing, recycled paper, very sparse text layout. I haven't read the articles as yet (just skimmed through when I opened the envelope), but apparently the 'top 1% of Frequent Flyers' are interested in commissioning their own symphony and mail-ordering gold-covered chocolate bars.

Got mine today - here are some pics for those that didn't receive one

And the cover letter (on the back of the page with the big Q above)

Just received mine and opened it. I'm not sure if it's just me, but I've had to throw it out as it had a strange odour - not sure if it is the paper or the printing or both, but it was giving me a headache.

BTW - I'm serious. This isn't another "Beat up Qantas" for yet another strange smell thread. :)

Before I did throw it, I had a quick look and can't say I was all that impressed.

Funny you should mention that - my wife (who is also sensitive to the smell of newsprint) thought the same thing when opening her copy.

Takes a while to driive the Kombi van loaded with WA copies across the Nullarbor...

Aaah this sounds familiar .... SQ have had a similar magazine for its PPS club members for some time now. I'll wait for my copy of the QF mag when I get home, and compare the two...

Ha ha, the new Quaint-cough recycled magazine is so environmentally hip it even smells like a greenie! :D

Mine arrived today - strange smell and all.

Nice to know that I'm in the top 1% of something....

Hi,

I still haven't seen my copy........I feel left out.:(
