Together with Emirates, we continually review our codeshare services across the joint network.

To help consolidate passengers using a combination of Qantas and Emirates services between Sydney / Melbourne and London Heathrow, Qantas will adjust its distribution system. This will see Qantas passengers travelling on Qantas operated services to or from Dubai (QF1/2/9/10) without a stopover, remain on the same Qantas aircraft, rather than changing aircraft in Dubai.

This change will appear in selling systems progressively for new bookings from 14 April 2014.

Customers with existing bookings to London Heathrow are not impacted by this change.

Offer for customers to change existing bookings
Customers who hold a booking from Sydney/Melbourne to London Heathrow with a Qantas marketed flight number (operated by Emirates) have the option to change their existing booking to travel on a Qantas operated service to London Heathrow, where it may better suit their travel plans. This would mean they would travel on the same Qantas A380 aircraft with the same flight number for all sectors of their journey between Sydney/Melbourne, Dubai and London.

On this occasion, there would be no additional cost to make this change.

This offer is subject to availability on Qantas operated services between Sydney/Melbourne and London Heathrow and is open for all Qantas customers booked and ticketed prior to 14 April 2014, for travel on/after 14 April 2014.

Qantas Frequent Flyer members who choose to take up this offer and change their ticket to fly on a Qantas operated service to/from London Heathrow, in this instance, will earn the same number of Qantas Points and Status Credits for that flight.
Chauffeur Drive bookings will need to be cancelled and re-booked via Manage Your Booking on qantas.com.

:-| -> this is me being the most un-surprised I've ever been...

Does this affect SC earning as there is no change of AC required?

I'd be interested in any response from Emirates on this.

Presumably this will also be the policy for award tickets. I was hoping to fly QF9 to Dubai and then join QF1 onward to LHR, just for the extra flounging.

I'm pretty thick, as many will attest. What does this mean?

From my simple reading, it looks like Qantas in the future will refuse to sell you a ticket where you swap from QF metal to EK metal (QF code-share) in Dubai. Is this the gist?

What if I don't want to be "consolidated" ?

It seems that some people have been flying MEL/SYD-DXB spending a few days there, then continuing on to LHR on an EK operated flight (likely one that doesn't leave DXB at ~2am). QF has been asking people to shift back to QF operated flights.

This only affects those without a stopover though. Basically stopping you from lounging in the airport it seems.

Stopping you from using an EK service when there is a QF one, ie revenue.

Am I correct that with the new earning after 1st July, the SCs earned on a SYD-LHR is the same as SYD-DXB-LHR? I guess it isn't as bad as I first thought.

The next logical step is to stop you using a OW flight if there is a QF one. eg Circle Pacific on QF paper SYD-HKG-YVR LAX-SYD. I've taken to doing the first 2 legs on CX as their J product is so much better than QFs. I wonder if OW rules would stop them forcing me onto QF SYD-HKG?
