Qantas to axe Melbourne-Dubai-London Airbus A380 QF9/QF10 flight? - Australian Business Traveller

"A Qantas source, speaking with Australian Business Traveller on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter, said Qantas’ plans to pull out of the Melbourne-Dubai-London route were driven by concerns that the debut of the non-stop Boeing 787 service between Perth and London would over-saturate the Kangaroo Route with more seats than passengers."

Significant news!

Really hope there is more to QF's plans than swapping MEL-DXB-LHR with MEL-PER-LHR. LHR is a horrible airport to transfer in for anyone wanting to access continental Europe.

PER requires a long bus trip to change terminals, horrible lounge. No thanks. I'll stick to my MEL-HKG-HEL-X on the A350 instead thanks!

Melbourne has been Perth'd!!

'no immediate plans'... not the same as 'no plans'.

Glad the DOT has stepped in to block the AA/QF JV.

"the new Boeing 787 from Perth, which modelling indicates will carry a significant number of Qantas travellers jetting in from Australia’s eastern capitals to make the direct Dreamliner flight"

Chicken and egg modelling.

yeah - great benefits for WA.... now all of a sudden modelling says it will be mostly connecting.

Obviously you haven't read the thread re: bus trip

We already have our favourite way of getting to London. This flight will need to be competitive.

All noises indicating that WA and QF have reached a deal. Pretty exciting news, especially for our often neglected Perth AFF members :)

Will be interesting to see what the pricing is like for MEL/SYD - PER - LHR compared with MEL/SYD - DXB - LHR.

For all the punches that QF take for doing nothing, I praise them for trying something new/different. I really hope its a commercial success for everyone's sake.

Yes I think that way too. Mrscove will want to give it a shot for sure even though we have lots of Kris Miles.
We may start going to LHR 3 times a year and LAX 3 times a year.

With the QF Per-Sin and Per-Akl moving from T1 to T3, it will be interesting to see what happens to the QF lounge in T1.

I heard the Perth airport wants the space back!
