Hi Folks,

I saw this on another forum:

Qantas offered access to their lounge for 60 bucks both on this layover at SYD and the return layover (from MEL) at AKL. [ Itinerary is SCL-SYD-MEL and MEL-AKL-SCL.] So I sprung for it. So… this trip is coming up this week and the return is on Easter Sunday, so I guess they figured they have beaucoup capacity so… you are so right about that! Anyway, I know it is precious for me to give up 60 bucks for a 3-hour visit, but that shower and cold Aussie beer will be sooo good after a long flight from Chile. BTW, I didn’t ask for this option, they just offered it . Great business move by QF… that’s “friends for life” kind of stuff!

I wasn't aware that Qantas offered paid lounge access of any kind, is this a new program? Is it indeed based on estimated capacity as this poster suggests? I'm not sure if the poster is a QFF member or not.

They've been doing this for many years now. It's only offered during quiet times and is processed through the complimentary lounge access portal. If it's available for a particular flight, you'll see a payment option in the invite selection dropdown when you go to link an invite.

There's also some info here under 'Invitation to purchase a lounge access pass':

Watched a YouTube video yesterday on a TSV-SYD flight and traveller was emailed invite to use TSV QP for $34, which he did. This was about 7 months ago from memory.
