Qantas or Emirates A380

Sorry to ask so many questions....

I've found QF1 from Sydney - London which is just displayed as the Qantas metal A380 with one stop. Does this mean it will be the A380 all the way through? I know that one or two sectors displayed affects SC's, but does it affect points? My dad doesnt collect QFF points but he will family transfer to me so SC's don't really matter.

Yes it does effect points. Basically what happens is when you have the one flight number on a stopping service the points and status credits are calculated as if the stop didn't exist route rather than the actual route flown. So both status credits and 'miles' are slightly less booking say QF1 SYD-LHR via DXB rather than SYD-DXB and DXB-LHR as separate sectors.

Have you considered putting him on BA's new A380 to Hong Kong ( perhaps stopping over) and then QF to Australia?
he could do a compare and contrast trip report!

That sounds like a possible idea, but he is not really interested in stopping anywhere. The main thing is to get him here easily and if he did BA to HKG and then QF, he would have to re-check his bags etc. I think he would prefer to be checked all the way through.

Thanks for that jaw. I just checked out SYD - DXB and then DXB - LON on the earning points calculator = 10,900 points. SYD - LON stopping service is 10,500 so only a slight drop, and it would mean getting to fly A380 all the way through :)

If you can get him into business, the Emirates A380 on-board lounge is really rather nice. Sit at the bar, swill champagne and chat to the hostie. Very amenable. The Qantas A380 on-board lounge is a place they store dead bodies when required, and pretty much has that vibe.

No rechecking of bags required if bought on the one ticket as both are oneworld airlines.

Do the EK A380s have the extra leg room at 80A and K or is this only a QF thing??

And if you fly into DXB and your next flight isn't say for 3 hours, does that mean you have a good chance of getting best seats on the next flight if the other passengers joining the flight haven't arrived at the airport yet??

EK in vers 1 and 2 of the A380 do have it, at Row 68 and 81.

Does he need to be registered at my address to do a family transfer? He lives in London and the flight will be originating there - can I not sign him up at his London address and then he does a family transfer? And yes, not earning points is an incredibly heinous crime. I would very much like to upgrade him :)

Family members don't need to be registered at the same address. I joined both my parents up, who live in France, at their home address and have completed one family transfer. Also, there is no joining fee when joining from abroad.
