Friends that we go to Bali with regularly reckon the JQ A321 is far better than the QF 737’s.
Obviously everyone is different but as JQ is on my banned list I can’t vouch for the quality of seating in their new aircraft

If you choose a Qantas 737 don't sit at the window. Due to the curvature of the wall, you lose floor space so I couldn't sit properly and had to twist my legs for 5+ hours. I sat at row 4 and was told to use the toilets all the way at the back.

JQ seats have thinner padding. Presumably you will be on a JQ 787 to Bali which will obviously feel bigger and have more overhead bag space. Toilets will likely be closer. If you feel like standing and stretching your legs there is more space to do so.

Been on a JQ 787, seats have no more room than an A320. Interior is physically larger yeah, but just more people are shoved in.

From memory, a QF 737 has a tiny bit less width bit a tiny bit more knee-room; at only 6'1" that suits me better, as it is I spend the entire Y flight with knees jammed into the metal frame of the seat in front.

I reckon this is a comparison between 2 things that are near identical. I'd go with whatever has the best price or the most convenient timing. Unless cancellations or mass lateness are an issue, in which case go QF.

Recently I had to make that choice (or Virgin).

Going up I chose Qantas J on a B737 (I think there are some A330s now). Coming back, Qantas only were running B737s overnight, so that was a no. With some trepidation I chose my second-ever JQ flight, with a J max bundle on a B787, to BNE. It was fine! Lounge access, good amenities, the meal was fine and the crew attentive. Not bothered by the other passengers . Of course if there was a delay or cancellation, then it would have been a much bigger problem than if I was on Qantas, but the flight was just fine. Cheaper than QF J of course.

+1 to this. It's not like the pax mix on VA or QF are wildly different to JQ. It's DPS.

JQ neo seats are slightly wider than the QF 737, if that matters. But less legroom in the standard seats. It really is much of muchness.

Not sure if MEL is using JQ 787's from March onwards

We have chosen to go QF J via SYD this year on the way back for the A330.

Flyfrequently daughter flew A321 recently and spent the $12 for extra legroom on the way home.

I actually think if flying economy, Jetstar is better. At least they have a variety of offers on the menu to purchase, not just “get what you’re given” on QF. My opinion…

Scheduled arrival & departure time of QF JQ VA ?

As a side story, JQ were recently filming a new commercial for Vietnam. Very tight 3 day scheduling. Production and film crew flew from MEL early to do location setup etc, of course flight was delayed. Client (Jetstar) marketing team, and the talent, went to fly next day. Flight cancelled. Flew day after. Packed 2 days filming in to one. Went to return. Flights cancelled. Production budgets blown out of the water with accom, talent fees, location fees etc all multiplying.

I think flight timings are important here. JQ will generally get you to bali in time to be enjoying coughtails by the pool. QF gets you there in time to go to bed

Coming back most flights are overnight, I’d take Qantas unless there’s a Jq 787. Nice in the qantas flight to get a snack and drink from the bar.

Otherwise timing is another consideration, the JQ has flights leaving at various times … no hanging around after getting kicked out of your hotel, and home in time to sleep in your own bed.

its surprising even for me, who has been multiple times, how quick the trip is

id recommend unless you are doing Business/honeymoon, just choose the cheapest and most convenient time
