I was happy to get this email today.

Dear Mr Corrigan

Thank you for your time on the phone today, and congratulations once again on winning a Flight Simulator experience for two at the Qantas base in Sydney. I'm sure you'll enjoy the opportunity to experience what it's like to be a Qantas pilot, and understand what goes on at the front of the plane when you're flying with us.

The prize includes:

  • Return economy flights for you and a guest from your nearest Australian capital city to Sydney
  • A Qantas Flight Simulator experience for you and a guest at the Qantas Flight Training Facility
The experience consists of:

  • A one-on-one pre-flight briefing with an experienced Qantas instructor
  • A one hour session in the Boeing 747-400 flight simulator
  • An exclusive behind the scenes tour of our Qantas Flight Training facility
  • An individual flight certificate and gift pack for each person

Do you have to 'win' this opportunity now?

I thought that all P1 were given the opportunity. I never bothered to take it up when it was offered to me as a P1 as QF could not give a fixed time anywhere in the near future, it was going to be on a 'space available' basis anyway and I would have had to book my own flights to SYD to utilise it.

Edit: I guess the free flights are the 'prize', not the simulator experience itself...

Maybe QF have changed up how these are allocated. I was invited to one of these last year, I just rang SST and was invited when I was in SYD it was a little different the main being no flight from nearest city, no flight certificate and gift pack for each person. Although it was about 1 hour in length there was another P1 and gust as well so time in the seats were shared. It was a good experience.

Same experience for me, though that was 2014 or '15... how time has flown!

I recall questioning where I had to go and when finding out it was halfway between the Domestic and International terminals they offered to pay the cab ride if I kept receipts. It didn't seem worth it in the end.

The 400 bus stops between the two terminals there - it's the 1st stop between each, so easy to get to that way if you don't want to try guiding a taxi driver - plus getting the angst from them about the short trip after you've been in the queue.

Take a cab or public bus, short 3-4 minute drive from Sydney domestic to Qantas training centre. So close but not walkable as pedestrians banned due to no footpath along busy section of roadway.
