Qantas partnership with BP

Hopefully you can earn when using the BPme app

You'd expect that to be the idea, it's certainly how it works in the UK and makes absolute sense.

FWIW: while local earn rates are yet to be announced, as a benchmark here are the earn rates for the equivalent BPme Rewards scheme in the UK:
  • 1 BP Point per litre of regular fuel
  • 2 BP Points per lire of Ultimate fuel
  • 1 BP Point per £ spent in-store
(As an ‘exchange rate’, 200 BP Points gives you £1 to be spent as a discount on your purchase or to go towards the BP Store where you can buy assorted tchotchke or vouchers for the likes of Marks & Spencer. Based on that, the 40 litre tank in my car would need 2.5 fills of Ultimate to earn that £1..!)

BP is always more expensive than all others in my area. I use RACV fuelwatch to see best local price, have VA creditcard so get points regardless.

Back to Shell for FB into VFF when competitively priced.

Whereas Shell is most expensive in our area and BP is the same price as everyone else.

Quality of fuel is important and I place BP at the top of the list. I only use Ult 98 and having a thirsty 145l tank will help keep the points ticking along.

The ACCC has given interim approval for the BP/Qantas partnership to commence in February 2020.

Velocity today announced it will end its partnership with BP on 31 January 2020.

The discount fuel outlets around here would make using BP (or Woolies Caltex) very expensive methods to obtain QFF points....
Good luck as you are wandering
Fred

The ACCC has given interim approval for the BP/Qantas partnership to commence in February 2020.

Interim authorization has been granted for BP and QBR. While they are proposing to allow the conduct between BP and QFF, it doesn't have initerim approval:

As a result, the ACCC has decided to grant interim authorisation to the Applicants for the Proposed Conduct only as it relates to BP and BP Resellers’ participation in the Qantas Business Rewards program. Interim authorisation does not extend to BP and BP Resellers’ participation in the QFF program

Anyone know if points can be earnt when paying with a BP Fuel Card?

Do we have an end-date for Caltex and QFF points earn via Qantas Business Rewards? I would expect that it's the day prior to the BP program starting up, but can't see it

It will be interesting to see how this new plan works and whether it's worthwhile. I drive little and have a big tank, so the "collect up to 500 bonus points when you fill up at BP" offers for VA were fantastic. I probably averaged over 10x as much in bonus points as per litre points, which is what made it worth it.

I need U95, so BP is always best for me. I wonder how many people notice that the other brands hike the U95 and U98 price a lot more than BP, as it's not on the big boards outside? U95 at my BP is 8c above U91. (Some BP have a 9c or 10c increment.) Shell is 14c more. Woolies is 17c more. So even when BP's U91 price is a cent above Shell, the U95 price is still 5c lower.

Was a nice little earner as we have a BP just around the corner and as a family we average about 150-200L per week. Just means we will earn QFF points now, hopefully with similar promos

Wonder what the reason was for bp to jump ship to qf

Corporate shenanigans that have played out over the last two years - its complicated.
BP originally wanted to buy the Woolworths Caltex operation, which would have meant an association with Woolworths Rewards, and hence Qantas.
BP was not happy with the Velocity and flybuys, as it indirectly could give Coles Express customers Velocity Points,

BP taking over the Woolworths Petrol operations was stopped by the ACCC. Even so, they had basically pulled out of the Velocity relationship.
