Qantas petition to open state borders

It’s the fines you get, even if the matter is resolved.

Airlines may have been given permission to coordinate routes and schedules, but i doubt that includes a cartel to withhold all services.
We have had alleged price collusion in the petrol industry for decades. I’d take the chance.

Signed as well. But likely SA will be open to everyone except Victoria by end of next week anyway.

QF Petition. Nice idea, but probably pretty much useless. Something like the COVID phone app. 🤭

If the airlines could figure out a way to temporarily stop the FIFO flights in WA, I suspect the border restrictions would disappear quickly. But there might be "unintended consequences"?

WA doesn't appear to be opening to anyone, any time soon.

How much business will SA actually get? Interesting to see, but I'd expect there to be very limited benefit. TBA on that I guess.

I expect there to be unrestricted opening of the internal borders about a week after the last airline calls it quits. And a week after that, the various governments will wonder why there are no flights.

I think it is more that SA people can escape! Our business is mainly Victoria but also ACT. It is a start.

Petitions are worse than useless but if signing it makes you feel like you've done something, knock yourself out.
I am feeling the travel restrictions as much as anyone, I had a lot of travel planned this year.
My boyfriend is stuck in Santiago, Chile, my best friend is in Sydney & my other close friends in Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Nouméa, Aix-en-Provence, Lyon and Paris.
But I am also very aware that those of us who are stuck in Perth are living a charmed life with very few restrictions.
I wouldn't want to see that put in jeopardy and VIC or even NSW style restrictions introduced.
Perhaps if QLD brings its outbreak under control travel could be opened up between WA and QLD, for example.
But Qantas would have to come to the party for that to happen.
There are currently no direct flights PER-BNE and without stringent safeguards a transit in Sydney would destroy the whole point of a travel bubble.
We need to find a way out of this situation but the route map needs to be determined by the epidemiological imperatives, not the profitability of an airline.

Given that SA has had no community transmission for weeks, zero active cases, and not a budge from him I think your Premier considers he has nothing to gain by opening to anyone.

Certainly not until the March election is done and dusted.

Unfortunately you are right as the WA premier has stop taking his CHO’s medical advice and is using the border as a political tool now to win his next election.

Also just heard on news that Bain/Virgin2, Helloworld and Flight Centre have teamed up with Qantas to put a 4 week publicity campaign on opening borders safely - one of our posters did suggest this would be a good idea and tada!!

I wonder how many signatures they have now.

I am not going near a QF aircraft, or any other, until flying is safe.
From a risk perspective it’s a much more controlled environment than your average supermarket. I flew SYD to BNK on Saturday and adherence to policies such as mask usage was close to 100%.

This is what I’ve been arguing. Nationwide grounding of all QF and VA flights including freight and FIFO. If they can get QQ and ZL onboard all the better.
I really don’t see why the airlines need to continue to assist their own demise.
