Qantas Platinum One experiences?

WP1 box.jpg

My WP1 box has arrived. :) It is 22cm long and came in a grey cardboard wraparound box.

New card inside along with a brochure outlining the benefits and letter from AJ.

Now to fly. My first experience with the P1 team was to avail myself of the free exit row aisle on international flights in Y. All very simple and only took a couple of minutes.

As it appears we both qualified P1 at about the same time, I will expect to see my little box soon (as a resident of the other side of the world over here in WA). Flying for the first time as a P1 next week and it will be in Hi Viz (first business trip in over three years). Hope to annoy the 'lounge standards' police in the PER QP.

Cheers! Looking forward to hearing of your new experiences. :)

A warm welcome to you too. :)
Let me know how you go next week.

Made WP1 while I was O/S a couple of weeks ago, and on the return flight from LAX to MEL it was the only time in ages that I haven't had a greeting from the CSM, or an "anything extra we can do" offer. And today, I got worse seats on tomorrow's MEL-SYD legs than I normally get. It's like going from WP to WP1 has downgraded my level of service. Maybe I should request a return to lowly WP status

Received my little box today (not a bad effort being only one day behind Hvr in MEL). When P1 goes 'white' it will be a little more exciting. You get the box, a form letter from AJ, a slim welcome brochure and a new card which looks the same as your old one except for two words. With the change to 'white', I wonder if new and existing P1 will get white Q Tags as well?

I have found that being P1 will certainly not move QF mountains.

Waitlisted for my first P1 flight early next week, QF mainline service, booked in full Y class. All of my work colleagues are already confirmed as they booked a few weeks ago. I have a confirmed seat on the flight an hour before. Called the P1 service team to see if I can get the waitlisted flight cleared so I will not have to sit around for an hour at the destination. No was the reply. Guaranteed Y seat purchase? No was the reply, as this is only for capital city services and a seat has to be available (I assume in J so they do not oversell the aircraft). Anything else can be done? No, just have to wait (just like when I was a WP).

It will not be the end of the world if the waitlisted flight does not clear but it is in these situations where 'A whole new level of service' (to quote the QF P1 spiel) would come in handy. If I was travelling by myself it would not have been an issue at all.

From my own personal experience.. since reaching P1 status.. nothing has changed on-air.. have had no Upgrades.. no Greeting from the CSM or CSS if seated in Y or PE.. called the Special team on 2 occassions for waitlist clearnace.. same reply as yours.. "Nothing we can do"..

However, the flight simulator and the occasional invitations (like State of Origin) are definitely added benefits..

Major downside that I see with P1 is that.. I did not get the DSC email.. so now considering whether I should aim to re-qual for P1 next year or not..

In summary.. I think P1 is not a status level that one should aim for.. like WP.. but if you do get there by normal travel.. then it does offer some additional benefits..

From my point of view.. I would like to see P1 being treated same as CL.. but there is a separate thread discussing that with both for and against argument.

Thats great Boomy.I have noticed in the last 3-4 months there has been a huge improvement in on board treatment, & to be honest its great. Not just the CSM but all the crew are exceptional. They were already great but they have gone up a knotch lately. Especially loving the OP-Ups that I have been receiving, not even on full flights.

I wish I could say that..Just 1 Op-up for past 1 year in 100+ flights that I taken.. CSM greet is about 5-10% if sitting in Y or PE.. Of course 'J' is different.. but that is for everyone not just for P1. Hopefully, it changes soon as I have a trip coming up to NRT and due to work policy flying PE.

Well I for one am really happy with the P1 SST. In air the service level from WP to WP1 for me is very noticable & it pretty much comes down to the crew, exceptional work by QF i reckon :)

I really dont think P1's should get DSC offers, or anyone close to P1, unfortunetly in my eyes the DSC offers have devauled WP & would be a shame if WP's get the DSC offer. Which is why WP1 got introduced. But yes as you said, there is an interesting thread started on P1's getting treated like CL's

Actually I have heard that if you're close to the next level it may trigger a DSC offer to give you a little nudge towards spending money because there is a reward.

I hope that QF looks into this! Speaking to a few P1s that I know.. this seems to be common request.

I agree with your comments that DSC have indeed diluted the WP value... you can see that by the number of people in Biz Lounge in SYD, MEL.. and worst is Brisbane.. I often find no spare seats... in Brisbane.

You may want to push back on that, as the T&C (20.4.1) don't specify capital city at all - they only exclude non-jet Qantas link - so any jet service is eligible. As you stated "mainline" then I assume you are on a jet.

There is no mention of a seat having to be available, and that is really rubbish, as the whole point of the benefit is to get a seat when one is not available. Ignoring the moral aspect, the benefit is to get you on the flight (an charge you a high price for a full fare ticket) and then for QF to handle the over sold position(which is why they insist on 24hr notice). Presumably they try and shift someone else to another flight.

They do keep the (e) "May occasionally have to restrict this facility", but it rather sounds more like someone couldn't be bothered with the work that would ensue having to manage the oversold situation, an it was easier to say no and fob you off with made up conditions which don't match the published situation.

QF520 today, arrived to the gate and my card didn't work, red light.
On my way to the counter I thought to myself: damn, am I on the wrong flight again?
The nice lady scanned my card, printed the BP and apologized for the wait.
Quick look at my BP showed that the original seat 4C was upgraded to 1A.

Thanks Qantas.

Wrong flight again, LOL.

Love those Op-Up's, especially when they keep the front row open just for you:mrgreen:
