Qantas Platinum One experiences?

Went to last Sunday's (22/10) 787-9xx event at Qantas Hangar 96. My +1 was my 16 year old son. It was a great opportunity for the family to experience some of the value of the P1 product. The 787-9 was on show along with a QF737-8xx (Retro Roo - James Strong - minus his bow tie). Everyone had the opportunity to do a walk through of both the QF787-9 and the QF737. Unfortunately the flight deck wasn't open on the 787 but it was open on the 737. There were a number of Tech and Cabin crew available to answer questions. QF staff indicated they were anticipating 1,600+ people coming through during the morning. Attendees looked to be a mix of QF staff, some P1's and their families. The morning had a slight carnival feel about it with QF put on a sausage sizzle, face painting and a coffee stand for everyone. QF also gave away some newly minted red Qantas Dreamliner caps complete with Platinum One emblazoned on the back.

A good job to the QF PR team.

First travel day back as a P1 after a 4 year break - a typical qantaslink canberra airport day of delays and cancellations - but i have to say i am detecting a much better level of service a recognition of P1 than last time round.... hopefully i haven't jinxed it for the rest of year!!!

I was just about to throw up a few lounge invites (free to good home) which are due to expire with my review period next week and noticed that two new passes for the next annual period have appeared and therefore overlapping with my current ones.

But what caught my eye is the expiry period on these two new ones are almost 4 weeks short of my actual review date which is 31/10.

I'm already quite unimpressed with Qantas 'tier benefits' these days, so I'm hoping this is just a simple mistake and not them being cheeky buggers trying to skimp on the valid use period.

Will see what their response is....

Hey there everyone, let me share a very simple and for me a very important experience with P1.

A while ago I was flying MEL-DXB-CDG on a QF ticket (Emirates metal for second sector). I had a meeting scheduled for CDG for a few hours, then had a completely separate ticket (booked with LH) for CDG-BCN.

Due to fog at Dubai we ended up in a holding pattern for a couple of hours, and thus when finally landed, missed the connection to Paris. I went straight to the F lounge and talked to the Emirates staff - I asked if I could be changed from the DXB-CDG flight I had missed, to a DXB-BCN flight that left in a couple of hours.... Initially they thought they could do that, (bless Emirates for their always good treatment of premium flyers), but then they realized I was on a QF codeshare ticket, so their option was just to reschedule me onto the next available DXB-CDG flight, the next day.

I went straight into one of the smoking lounges within the DXB flounge area, the waiter brought me a bourbon, I lit a cigarette, and I opened my laptop and made skype call to the P1 team.

Before I had finished that first cigarette, they had (1) answered the call, (2) understood that I wanted to actually change my destination country as I had missed my meeting, (3) promised that all was good and they would immediately make the arrangements for me to catch the next DXB-BCN flight instead.

After I hung up, I walked back to the lounge entrance and talked to the staff again. They confirmed that QF had allowed the flight change, and I was reissued a boarding pass.

This was a very good experience.

Went to the Melb event today. Very well organised and had a great time. Thanks QF!

I also went to yesterday's 787-9xx event in Melbourne, along with my +1. It was terrific event, and well done to the QF folks who put it together. I loved being able to talk to the tech crew. 787 flight deck was closed, but you could sit in the 737 flight deck. There was a bit of a queue mind you - particularly with all the "big kids" wanting their turn in the captain's chair.

One thing I noticed when doing a close look at the 787 J cabin is that there are a couple of seats which have extra foot and floor luggage space. The middle pair in the front J cabin (2E/2F) have the extra leg and luggage space, and 10E in the mini rear J cabin. One of things I don't like about the QF J "suite" is that feeling of "foot claustrophobia". That's definitely not the case with those seats with the extra foot space. I'm still not convinced that I will be doing QF9/10 on the 787 though.

Another year done and dusted, all dom flex fares.

0 event invites, 0 comp upgrades, numerous water bottles received.

Positives, the P1 team were brilliant once again with flight issues and booking alterations on short notice. Also helped out tremendously during a family emergency a few months back which I can thank them enough for.

wow, impressive. P1 on Dom. Is that in Y or J? I am guessing Y as you said no upgrades. If QF is like VA, I suspect that the "rewards" are based on spend, not sectors/miles.

That's very impressive. How many flights did you take for 4960 status credits?

All in Y. I refuse to use points to upgrade myself for work trips (even though the cost is halved due to the Flex fare), as my personal end goal from all this flying was to have enough points saved up to look after flights for various family members well into the future :)

Just had a quick look and it seems to be around the 140 mark, all but one return leg up to Townsville for the footy were work related :(

Had a bit of a giggle as to day when I logged in.
I was logging in to see my sad 0 status credits as my year reset yesterday.
Well Qantas gave me a goal to attain P1... umm can I just get my Platinium for next year sorted first ?
Have to say with all the comments above P1 doesn't interest.

Sadly my anniversary year has just flipped over too. The status credits just disappear into cyberspace.
