Qantas Platinum One experiences?

More trivia than ‘experience’ and just a little odd.

I did QF23, SYD-BKK, the other day and we were given arrival forms and Premium Lane cards on board as normal.

On getting off I was singled out at the gate (my name on a board) and handed one of the new style premium lane cards (blue rather than gold), with the emphasis on it being ‘new’ and seemingly special.

I didn’t see any of the other J pax being dealt the same, so I can only ascribe it to P1.

And quite unnecessary as it happened - the original card worked just fine.

P1 saves the day again. Still think the best perk is what they do under irops.

QF1 horribly delayed connecting onto a *A flight today

They endorse the ticket to fly QF-MH directly to my destination. One phone call. 20 mins. Better routing and arrive earlier. Same number of status credits.

Pretty happy with the loyalty now...

Really glad to see that outcome. The P1 team is essentially there for when things go wrong (and for answering my constant emails, which they’re very good at). It’s that extra level they go to when things go pear shaped that makes the 3600SC worthwhile.

great news. just quick question.. since you mention QF1, I'm going to assume it was SYD-SIN-xx_, but possibly got routed SYD-KUL-xx_ on MH? Was the Star sector (say SQ OZ or TG) on the same ticket as the QF flight or separate? I'm going to guess the same ticket but curious due to the * connection.

Received upgrade flexi economy to business. CNS/BNE for today.

Checked in online (T-90) so can't see if that's "compliments of P1". I presume so as this morning they were still selling red e deals.

Update:

Asked for paper boarding pass and no comments.
So not really sure who the upgrade came from!

That is the thing with my upgrade Y to J BNE-SYD last week. I sent the P1 team an email (mainly about some other stuff but also mentioned this. I said I appreciated the upgrade but have no idea why it was done - that they were losing out by not promoting it as a P1 thing. In relation to that part of my email I was told that it was a P1 thing and that they put a message on the boarding pass to that effect. I studied that BP a few times (I am always bored travelling) and I swear there was nothing to that effect. But I have heard of others getting some message on the BP.

Consistent inconsistency at work again?

I haven't chimed in for a while mainly as there has been nothing to mention and was almost at the stage I would have posted how ambivalent I am towards the P1 thing. Then to my surprise received an invite to an event and to my further surprise I can actually attend.

Pretty sure all (ie, maybe 3) of my actual P1 upgrades I've received the message on my BP. It's very obvious - something like "Enjoy your flight - from the Platinum One Service Team" or the like. I usually send a thank you email and get a nice response.

I tend to know in advance when I get one of these from my seat alerts on EF. My seat suddenly becomes clear in EF but QF MMB and the App still show me in my old seat. And still plenty of availability in the original Y class.

What event? An actual flight you had booked? :)

Not a flight, one of those illusive "invitations to special events and experiences". It has been so long since I was invited to anything I thought that invites had been withdrawn from the benefits.

Have never, ever, been invited to an event, except one where I already had flight booked and would have been airborne somewhere over the great southern ocean.

Basically. Yes.

I can tell the P1 upgrades because they usually happen the day before, and your booking usually stays in the lower class but the seat changes mysteriously. I've had messages and no messages. It's Random.

I think as to why they do not actively advertise these comp upgrades as a perk is to reduce expectation.

If you say "We'll upgrade you from time to time" (for example) and someone doesn't get it then they could arc up, no matter if the reasons are due to full revenue cabins, late standbys or any number of other reasons.

Since QF do not treat this like in the US where UA/AA/DL members can expect a space available "status" upgrade then it's very different. Previously posters have suggested QF do it "every 10th" flight" or so, but that can't possibly be a given guarantee.

Much like the event invites, if you publish it as a benefit tha leads to expectations...

IMHO

Less the simulator I have never been to an event. In the past what invites I had received were when I was away or in the air, I thought is was a conspiracy ;).

I have been flying VA, SQ, TG and CX over the past few months so QF cannot see my current flight patterns, well the CX rewards they can. I think just good luck on this occasion.

It is though, poor form in my humble opinion, to offer a P1 an invite to an event when they already have a QF booking so, so far away.......

Can I ask with these mysterious upgrades do they occur on reward flights too (eg a QF dom flight in Y) or is it only paid flights?

I’m curious as my only Int travel is via Perth on to London where I’m already in J (yes I know I’m lucky) and so the only flights where I have a class above me would be domestic

Only been paid flights from me as far as I recall. But I don't do that many reward flights and when I do they usually are the highest available class anyway.

That said, I see no reason why a reward flight couldn't or wouldn't be chosen.

They’d probably choose revenue P1 passengers ahead of P1s on reward flights one would think. The numbers of solo P1 passengers would vary quite a bit depending on the route, time of day/week etc.

It depends on how you get upgraded. Agree revenue may take priority but once the doors are closed, as alluded to up thread I am not sure if the CSM knows you are a revenue or rewards PAX but they do know you are P1.
