Qantas Platinum One experiences?

Got event invite to Whisky tasting thing at an art gallery here in MEL.

oh but I don't drink Whisky though it looked like heaven for those that do enjoy a wee dram or three.
Nothing here, hoping for something after being unable to attend the last event. I don’t drink whiskey either but wouldn’t mind the art. Clearly TDKWIA

Got looked after well on a recent TT in Y. Interestingly there were 2 spare J seats but I think I consumed more than J.
Doing the golden triangle route today and managed to fly ahead in J when everythings booked at evening peak and crew have been great to everyone.
Nothing specific but QF continue to be my preferred airline for my travel patterns.

“Local” in the sense of same landmass…

If in Launnie, and free this Friday evening, you might like to come by at 6:30pm, when a bunch of AFFers are having an informal drinks/dinner at the Levee Food Company, at Seaport. Its the icebreaker for the annual AFF Gathering:

If it really takes your interest, there is still a spot on the wine tour available, but unfortunately the other tour, and the Saturday Dinner are full. If you'd like to know more, pls "Conversation" me (envelope symbol at top right).

An interesting update to my booking on the BA website (I have an AA booking LAX-LHR-MUC) that has seen lounge change from the BA First lounge to mentioning Concorde Room. As far as I’m aware, as a QF P1 on AA metal in PE and then BA euro whY, I wouldn’t get access to Concorde Room at LHR. But the info on the booking has changed. I do note the caveat re BA Premier though… but is that because of my P1 attached to the booking?

I remembered this post for an upcoming booking and checked, however mine looks different and does not have any CCR mention :(

So had case to call VIP tonight. It's been a couple of months so these changes may have been in for a bit, but I found some interesting changes when I called. First, an offer to input the PNR of an existing booking before talking to VIP, and the next, while I was on hold for the agent (for about 90 seconds) there was a voiceover reminder of P1 benefits (a bit in line with the "status benefits" summary item that's been added to the QFF App).. There was even a pleasant "We'd like to thank you for being a Platinum One member" - now sure it's recorded and all, but you know.. I thought it's a simple thing and all, but I thought yeah nice touch QF.

It made me think how some people really value status recognition (ie greetings on aircraft and so on) that's often discussed in threads like this, and well this was an example of an obvious way to do that, but was still quite nice to hear. Costs them nothing, and if we have to be on hold waiting for VIP at least it was there.

It reminded me that when I was in the US flying UA a few months ago and due to bad karma going on had to call the 1K (1K status is sort of between WP and P1 imo) line, each and every single agent opened the call with "Thank you for being a 1K member" and while a small thing and I wouldn't really care if they didn't, it was SO consistent I of course thought of QF lol.

So anyway, maybe this has been in place for a bit, but I got a bit of a surprise when I phoned QF tonight :)

Thankfully not have had to call QF recently however took ages to get to an agent a few months back, that I hung up (while overseas). I have noticed on flights like SYD/SIN status is not recognised failry regularly.
Like to keep a low profile hence don't like the cards, big show etc (ok with just the welcome back). However would like them to identify status amongst themselves and provide suitable service so we have something tangible for all the ridiculous flying we do. A few folks seated next to me have also benefited from said service :)

As an aside: I would also like them to ask folks not to take pics - like KLM for example. Seriously, have no issue with people taking pics as long as I'm not included (even in the background). What do others think of all the pic taking, videos on board etc?

It's public transport, unless I'm in the lavatory I fully expect I can be in the frame of someone's camera phone.

So, ok, define what you mean by "suitable service" that recognises P1 status?

I mean if you get your choice of meal (and I've never not on international) and the same level of service as the rest of the cabin (good, bad or indifferent) is that reasonable? or do you think more attention, more drink offerings or something is more "suitable" - but then how does that keep a low profile that you prefer.

I'm a little confused here. Can you provide an example of what you mean?

:)

Well, I think that's common courtesy for anyone to either ask or only take pics/video of themselves/their companions(if any). I only ever take outside pics (sunrises/sunsets or interesting landmarks or clouds I can yell at or something) or food (to post here LOL).. never crew or other pax. I think that's inappropriate.

Having said that, while some airlines do have policies on this, aircraft cabins I think are generally treated like any other public spaces where it's not illegal to take pics and one generally shouldn't have an expectation of privacy from this..

Have you had specific instances of being included in pictures in a cabin against your wishes? Have you brought it up with whoever was taking the photos and politely asked them to remove the images or at very least not include you?

If I understand what the OP is saying, I would think as you suggest it's ensuring you get the meal you want (if you're sitting further back in the cabin) or even little things like I've mentioned in another thread where I was offered a coffee from the (n)espresso machine whilst most others weren't, or being offered a drink straight after take off and not having to wait for them to set up the drinks cart. Little things like that can go a long way and given there's rarely going to be more than a handful of P1's on any given flight it's something that could be easily done without disrupting the flow of service yet make the P1 level feel a little more 'special' than a vanilla WP.
