Qantas Platinum One experiences?

My partner made it to P1 in April leaving me behind in the SC dust. In domestic travel we always booked in J with MASAs so we really haven't needed anything. The time we skyped QF from London the phone only rang once before it was picked up and I had tried for 14 minutes in a queue on hold so that was a big difference.
The on board staff have always been nice to us so we are both happy fliers. Today we are flying to Melbourne so out of Perth we are heading off in the early afternoon rather than joining the morning rush.
Our real wish for the J section of the cabin are for seats where the row in front cannot encroach our space so that would mean a refit of the current seats to a type 2 Newson model. Noise cancelling headsets would be well received in all J seats.
I know my partner loves eating beef cheeks as she is a butchers daughter.

Was on a non flex fare SYD/MEL today at 1pm so asked at the counter about an earlier flight. The lounge dragon wasn't sure of the policy and P1s so made a call and asked what the SOP is.

She was told no, no earlier unless flow through was in effect. Which it is not, but did it for me anyway as a "one time favour" given it was 20 minutes prior to departure and plenty of seats I doubt they would have sold/utilised them.

I rarely have non flex fares on my return journeys back to MEL so I avoid this sort of thing, but it is rather interesting none the less that P1s don't get that "undocumented feature" I wonder if CL get that too?

Most of my travel is on red-e-deal tickets and I've noticed the SYD dragons are indeed more reluctant to change them compared to MEL/ADL/BNE.
I never saw it as a P1 special benefit so if I can get an early flight I'm happy, if not, I will just enjoy some F&B in the J lounge.
Win win :)

Nothing to do with P1 at all.

It's called a schmoozing benefit.... you gotta have it to get it ;)

Missed the flight PER-BNE, then directed to the sales desk to buy 2 new tickets for the flight next day. We were told it should have cost us over $900 to issue 2 new tickets but this time we would be charged only a "change" fee of $117 each.
Not sure if we got it because I'm P1 but nevertheless it was a very nice gesture.

Within the first few weeks of reaching P1, and for the first time ever in all my travel, I slept through my alarm and missed my regular 05:30 flight CNS-BNE, and to add to the conundrum, that day in particular, had a connection BNE-SYD, both on Red e-Deals. After the gate had rung me to ask if I would be joining the flight (which I declined), I called the SST, explained the situation, and left it with them. Fortunately (and very gladly), I was simply moved onto the next CNS-BNE flight, with a connection onto SYD. No cost to me. I was very grateful, and this in itself immediately justified the extra effort I went to to obtain P1 for the year.

I had some great service with WP1 although I haven't qualified again this year :(. Free tix to a few events. Personal escort through airport (brilliant when myself and my family had 10 bags weighing 25 - 30kg each). Got all requested upgrades. Was able to change a non-flex fare at the last minute, for free when booked incorrectly. Got reward flights for family on desired days & times to desired destination. Got all requested rewards flights when not showing availability online. Fantastic service via the WP1 hotline like delayed the plane when I was late to the airport on one occasion because of extremely bad traffic and always getting on an earlier flight if at the airport early. Really was a bonus when I had it and will miss it this year. Plus doubt I'll get there again now MASA's have been removed. Haven't managed any free upgrades yet but have generally always gone for upgrades if available with points anyway.

Win-win tonight.

After getting a Y shadow to finally stick at 'doors closed', I was feeling pretty happy about my flight. During the long delay until pushback, a FA came up to me and stated that he had promised my bulkhead shadow to someone down the back after take off. I stated that I was not too keen on losing my shadow on a not completely full flight and he then went away and I kept my shadow.

Later in the flight, the CSM came down especially to make some smart coughd comments to me about my shadow.

Win for me in finally getting a Y shadow to stick and a win for the CSM for getting a few unnecessary cheap shots in. I hope she feels better now.

Oh dear :(
To be honest I really don't get the whole shadow thing as I'm a firm believer that you get the seat and only the specific seat that you pay for. It sounds like the CSM agrees with me all be it I wouldn't have been quite so blunt in the expression were I not behind a keyboard.

What did she say exactly?
I could think about a few smart coughd comments of my own if the FA would have told me he promised my shadow to someone who already had an allocated seat on that flight.

Or you also get it they have pity on you....

I've dropped of boxes of chocolates when I've been taken care of by QF where they had no obligation whatsoever. On one occasion I was QP at the time. I felt bad delivering the chocolates because I forgot the csa name, but recalled her mum lived in Hervey Bay. Thankfully based on that recall, it was enough to ensure the chocolates were delivered to the csa : ) I was the middle of a 7 segment weekend on a non changeable sale fare. She should've got truffles!

Have just had marginally better but still frustratingly inconsistent experiences on 5 domestic and two trans-tasman legs.

On the plus side:
- received one upgrade to J, very early morning Cairns to Brisbane flight which was oversold (according to EF days out, so I had predicted an upgrade anyway. A benefit of higher status I guess but not necessarily P1 related? Welcome in any event.
- requests for shadows which I initiated were all made (I could see via EF), held on 3 of the remaining 6 flights - one of which did look full so was appreciated, other two the middle seats generally seemed vacant anyway.
- one Trans-Tasman flight (Amelia the manager) received better headsets and the 'anything we can do' offer. Excellent flight generally, despite no shadow (was full I'm sure, as the later flight ex-Sydney had been cancelled a month ago).

On the 'inconsistent' side:
- two of the requested shadows were taken by silver or gold passengers, in row 4 when others behind were empty (so assume is easy to override in lounge or gate if requested).
- zero greetings on majority of flights.
- was the one person in rows 4, 5 and 6 that was not named and offered better headset on the return trans-Tasman flight (!)
- on one domestic sector was given the CSM greeting with the ipad, an offer to assist with anything but she moved to the next row before I even finished saying thank you. Next time I saw an attendant (who did then make the offer of anything you need) was after the first officer had advised we'd be descending in 3 minutes.

Several empty J seats as well on the flights I was not upgraded on, so there goes that theory too.

Oh well. At least now I'll stop whining about no upgrades.

Welcome to being a carded P1 at Below platinum service levels.
