Qantas Points Club Discussion

And bonus points ends today!
Yeah, I don’t even recall seeing that promo until I just had a look out of curiosity how much points were going for these days.

If I was going miss out on PC requal by a few points, I’d do the points top up thing but I’d probably know well in advance and just buy points with bonus wine.

Pretty much all that is left is a CC sign up bonus. Perhaps shelve AMEX for now and go for one of the NAB/ANZ offers for a quick churn and burn?
How long do nab bonuses take? ANZ have credited in month 2 at the earliest in my experience

Buying "Top-up" points is uncapped - if someone was desperate. But just using that cash to fly could be better value if just after SCs?
If I dropped the gap to 100k points and purchased those for $2,730 (sale now finished), and then valued the 100k points at 1c/p, the ~300sc would cost $1730 or around $5.70/SC.

Could definitely put that towards a status run instead but as you say if we were a bit closer it might be a different story.

Thanks everyone for the ideas!

I got my bonus Qantas points from NAB Black card after the second statement (the first one was after 2 weeks), after hitting the required spending in a week.

Can also confirm that anz balck was a bit slow to credit, even after meeting the min spend (and repauing the debt) mid of the first cycle. Nothing on first statement, points on the second.

What is the 300sc you talk about @exceladdict ? Is that some expected eanrs on future CR on Qantas metal, if points club is achieved?

Qantas premier platinum credits quickly. Mine came through with the first statement (and left me two days to get the balance for points club 🙈)

Very interesting, how long was first statement period? And was this recently?

This was in June. My statement was a month after receiving the card (so approx. 30 days) with the points arriving the same time.
Thanks for the reply. The 70k won't quite get us there - and the 30 days will put it past the flights - but this could be helpful for future reference.

Had been hoping amex would come to the party as their short first statement cycles can prove very useful.

Hasn't been updated on the website yet, but based on a promo e-mail received this morning, looks like 'bonus points earn' in the QF Marketplace is being extended for 4 more months. Earn rates until 31 Jan 2025:
  • Points Club - 1 bonus point per dollar spent (baseline of 4 points per dollar for most items)
  • Points Club Plus -
  • 2 bonus points per dollar spent (baseline of 5 points per dollar for most items)

Anyone had a situation where they booked a classic rewards domestic flight on QF metal (SYD-ADL in my case), and got 0 SC in their history when the flight posted?

Have never had that happen before, not sure if I should message or do a missing points request (I expect the points to be 0, not the SC on a CR).

No. Usually post the next day.

Was this very recent? Maybe wait a moment before emailing in the details.

Presumably no changes to the booking along the way?

Hopefully not a silly question but thought I'd ask: does the flight in question carry a QF flight number? If so, then certainly if you are a Points Club member you are owed 7 status credits there. And I say this as someone who has earned status credits on QF operated and marketed flights booked using my BA Avios points as a PC member.

Yes for sure, it was SYD to ADL so main domestic route with QF number.

Not sure it’s a loophole?
I would be am glad to be wrong but I was under the impression it was intended for 081 issued tickets only, and people have just had some pleasant surprises.

Edit: relevant t&C appear to be
Points Club and Points Club Plus members will earn Status Credits on Qantas Marketed Classic Flight Rewards and Classic Plus Flight Rewards if they are a Points Club or Points Club Plus member at the time they fly. Your Qantas Frequent Flyer membership number must be recorded in your booking before your flight departs to receive the Status Credits. See the Points Club Status Credit Table. for the Status Credit earn rate for Points Club and Points Club Plus members. Flight Rewards are subject to capacity controls, availability is limited, and some flights may not have any Flight Rewards available. Taxes, fees and carrier charges are payable to Qantas (excluding any amounts payable to third parties at the airport) in addition to the points required.

I will stop now, but still feel it's verging on flight club.

Nothing in the Ts&Cs. But yes, Fight Club rules might apply…

The general all in BA flights crediting loophole has well and truly closed. I believe as a by product of changes to the way BA handle paid upgrades…😔
