Qantas 'preferred seating'

Preferred seats are free for Gold and above, so that doesn't seem so bad?
Yes they are and I've been able to get good seats until a few weeks out as these seats were blocked to those without status. Now they will be available for purchase to anyone who's willing to pay.

Remember complimentary exit rows for Platinums? I do.

Remember the ability to choose row 4 at time of booking for Platinums? I do and now that's a Platinum One benefit.

Remember any time access to lounges? I do.

Remember Upgrade credits?

Remember 1,000 points minimum guarantee on domestic flights?

There were some really good benefits over the years that have evaporated but they need some way to fund the CEOs obscene salary. It wasn't that long ago and Iremember the outcry when he got an increase to $5 million/year and now it's only marginally more at $24 million/year.

Exactly. It's only a matter of time until they allow anyone to purchase any economy seat (perhaps reserving row 4 for P1/CL), leaving SG/WP to fight everyone else for the remaining seats at the back of the bus.

OK Chicken Little calm down 😂

I'd forgotten about this until a colleague (silver) just called me and asked what these preferred seat charges were. They knew I'd flown, and made bookings recently, and asked if I'd seen them. I said I hadn't, and now I know why. By coincidence paid for preferred with airpoints on NZ last night for extra legroom BNE-CHC-BNE.

Lost my preferred seat on the A330 AKL - BNE today.
Thought it was swapped to a 737, but still 330 on flight aware.
Wanted window, booked preference window, got provided window at booking, QF NB but been to QF SG before, lost 7A, got 2 non window.
They indeed don't care.
Preferences, hah!
