As a metallurgist, my biggest bugbear is the use of "titanium" after "platinum"! Are you kidding!!!!! a coughpy rather cheap metal that is mainly used for the white pigment in paint, has to be alloyed with other metals to stop it failing when its heated, like in aircraft.......

Get real and use something like "palladium" or "iridium", something sexy and expensive in the metals industry.

But by the sounds of the above conversations they should have called it "lead" as it seems to be going that way:)

IMHO the benefits of this card fall well short of the Amex Platinum perks, for an annual fee that's almost as high.

If you were prepared to trade the 2 x First lounge passes for 2 x QC lounge passes and 2 x Amex lounge passes, even the Qantas Ultimate Amex for $450 p/a with $450 travel credit will get you Qantas Wine membership and a higher point per dollar earning until April when it will match this card, and their bonus point offerings are often around 120K.

It doesn't shine under light though.

Well, you could get the annual fee back in the form of airfare discounts if you spent more than $6,000 on Qantas flights twice per year. But, I'm not really convinced that someone earning more than $200k would get a credit card just so they can (maybe, potentially) save a little bit of money on flights.
Though I'm not a taker, must admit I've applied for credit cards for less substantial reasons than saving $1400 (assuming 2x2 J to Europe)

It appears Qantas sees dollar signs and want a piece of the action. Unfortunately for them this card is not even close to being desirable for their target market. Premium customers will expect a far better deal.

Agree with most here.

While I'm currently not eligible for this card, even if I was, it is not really even close to being enticing compared to other cards on the market.

Sure, but you actually have to spend that money. I have some uncapped cards, by that logic I could get $1m in value out of those cards, I'm just not nearly rich enough :D

Agreeded. But the reality is that this is a card for those people who run their small/medium businesses through their cards.

They should've thrown in gold status (so long as you make one paid flight or something similar). Chances are the majority of potential cardholders would already have it but if someone doesn't, it's a decent way to attract people who might actually fly qantas regularly paying cash.

I'm sure Qantas did all their focus groups before launching this product, but clearly I live in a parallel universe to those they have polled.

$1,200 per annum? For a card that earns nothing more than Qantas Frequent Flyer points? Wow...

If it has Apple Pay I’m in... Which you would expect as a Citi-issued card, although the other Qantas MasterCard didn’t.

Rationale for me is that the true incremental cost of the card is ~$300-400 which is worth the 150k points
  • $425/year for ANZ visa Apple Pay ($1/1pt QF up to $7.5k/mo)
  • $400 savings (assuming that it’s 10% off each booking ie., flying family of 4 overseas))
  • That’s it.

Qantas doesn't exactly have a good reputation among people working the cards and financial services space for reasons similar...

If it has Apple Pay I’m in... Which you would expect as a Citi-issued card, although the other Qantas MasterCard didn’t.

Told won't happen anytime soon because Citi and Qantas can't agree on who will pay for ApplyPay.

20% bonus SCs mean you would only need 960 SCs to requal WP (including the loyalty bonus). Might be worth something to someone I guess.

Two F passes - maybe worth $200, but if you're WP anyway they're pointless (and you can't resell them). Wine membership worth $100.

If you wanted to blow a lot of money on a credit card the Amex Platinum is far better value.

Do we 'know' the member mentioned in the SMH article who earned 30 million QF points last year. (It would be easy if it were Kris miles)

If I'm a business owner (that runs huge expenses through credit card use), I'm going to be looking to avoid being in a position to have >$200K of declarable annual salary.

If I do have an annual salary of >$200K salary and not a business owner, can't see how I could rack up enough personal spend to make this card worthwhile.

Interesting article in the Fairfax papers today: https://www.theage.com.au/business/...ers-credit-card-spending-20190211-p50x0j.html

On Tuesday the company will launch a third credit card available only to people earning more than $200,000 a year and willing to pay a $1200 annual fee.

Along with the highest points earn rate and points sign-on bonus of any Visa or Mastercard in the market, the airline hopes to lure customers to its Titanium card with perks including a 10 per cent discount on two Qantas bookings per year, and departure lounge invitations.

So it'll be a 1.25 ppd earn like Amex?

I wonder if this is simply just trying to create a status symbol or if it'll be worth it. I can't imagine some lounge invites (which come with other cards) will be worth that much for the annual fee.

The 10% discount could be interesting, though with Qantas's taxes and fees it probably just brings them into line with the rest of them.

That included one member who earned more than 30 million points last year - or roughly $30 million worth of spending on a standard Qantas-partnered credit card.

Who here is this? :D
