Qantas Premium Economy Meals

We have a thread for Qantas business class meals, but I don't think that premium economy is being discussed anywhere.

I'm considering booking QF premium economy to South America next year. Would like to know what the meals are like, and generally how the experiences compares to other cabin classes.

Anyone flown in this cabin recently and care to share your experience?

Good thread. I don't have QF experience but with BA. This link provides info about options to pre-order. Useful comments at end of article. Apparently if one is to opt for upgrade then meal selection is rendered useless. That's my take.

Unless they have significantly changed, QFi premium economy meals are kind of a [very slightly] upgraded QFd business class meal. All served on one tray, 'leaves' salad (enough to cover the bottom of the bowl) with maybe some beans or feta thrown in; a choice of two mains (sometimes with a whole piece of protein); and a packaged dessert (like a slice or crumble or mousse). And then snacks.

Sadly champagne is now off the menu. Sparkling wine is served.

I am of the opinion that champagne is sparkling wine!

Here's a few meals from last year. Sadly I've been upgrade from PE to J on every flight this year so this is all I can do.

It's a shame for the sake of just a few dollars per flight that they've cut back on the catering.

The salads used to be upgraded... green beans, feta, pine nuts, mini mozzarella balls... all used top make an appearance in the salad when PE was first introduced.

'Create your own sandwiches' were also a feature. your choice of breads and 10 or so toppings to create your own sarnie to order. Also now gone and replaced with pre-packaged long-life snacks.

With Qantas valuing their premium economy to London at over $9000 per person, it's a shame.

I did PE earlier in the year and have done it multiple times over the past few years mainly SYD-HKG-SYD route, whilst I agree the catering has been cutdown a bit, it is still a pretty good meal. (I was annoyed though that on a HKG-SYD overnight they didn't have yoghurt for PE pax for breakfast! they had to get a Y yoghurt for me.)

The worst PE food would have to be CX, they only give Y meals to PE pax nothing special.

Also I priced a MEL-LHR-MEL on a random date in March 2016 and it comes to $4800, even fully flex both ways is $7900, people would be better off booking business sale for a little bit extra.

CX PE is a bit confusing. For intra-asia flights the food offering is the same as economy. For long-haul, the main dishes for the principal meal are supposed to be the same as business class (but sometimes different plating). Granted CX J class meals aren't anything to write home about, but not as easily confused with economy as TG's business class meals (almost identical to economy).

CX PEY flights to the USA for example have the same beef steak as business.

The pricing of PE by QF at $9000+ might be because it includes domestic add-ons from as far away as Perth (in economy).

Having travelled on this route in PE last year , the food is pretty damn good and your photos do the quality of the food Justice!

LOVE IT Yep, just another example of how a 'title'/word/law can fool those (brand conscious ) who are gullible enough to believe the hype because it looks good being seen to use the product . Personally I drink (and eat) what suits my palette, regardless of what it is called/branded/legally obliged to be called )..it's a great way to live

Yes I've found for PE its best to assume economy, or slightly better food served on proper crockery. Wines are off the business menu in my experience but less choice.

Just flew MEL-LAX PE on QF93, upgraded from Y to PE using points (was trying for J). First time in PE for a very long time. Must say I was disappointed. Seating - obviously better leg room but recline not much better than Y. Food - overall probably better/more options but the main course I chose (herb crusted pork) was very dry, almost inedible and almost un-cuttable even with metal cutlery. When you consider the cost difference ($2k v $5k) I certainly wouldn't be paying to fly PE. FWIW, I think the last time I was in PE, it cost approx $300 to upgrade to PE from Y! Luckily, the return LAX-MEL I got the full upgrade to J, although only at the gate. Had eaten well at the QF Lounge so had to pass on the supper service. Haagen Daaz ice cream and semillon dessert wine was nice though . I'm going to post a new thread question about the upgrade process if you care to find that shortly.

I flew premium economy on QF27 to SCL yesterday (you all convinced me it was worth it!). Thought I would post briefly about my experience here.

I was very impressed. The two dedicated Y+ flight attendants were lovely and very attentive. The hard product was a definite improvement over economy too.

I had the lamb moussaka for lunch, which was tasty:



And the hot breakfast. Very closely resembled the hot breakfast I had in domestic J the day before.

Wow - salad of garden leaves with balsamic vinaigrette - they served you a dish also served in F. Amazing!

Sarcasm aside, that really looks like a good menu and great dishes. Better than a lot of long-haul J, I reckon. And decent snacks through the flight.
