Qantas Pub Sydney - no more takeaway coffee cups

Agree 100% FIFA. Although more for the tea. Those silly little ceramic cups are ridiculous.

SYD Dom J lounge had take away cups on Monday morning and many were partaking in the long, but quickly flowing(pun intended) queue around 0730 :)

And yet they still hand out tiny little plastic water bottles in (some) domestic J because it's quicker than walking around with a tray of glasses.

I haven't flown QF d for a month now but everyone got those little 200ml? bottles of water instead of larger reusable plastic cups. Quite annoying cause if you want a few cups of water you'll be handed several small plastic water bottles.

It's much quicker to handle and serve those in Y-class is my guess. And who really wants "plane" water? They are actually 250ml and can be recycled as much as a plastic cup I guess. On international flights, Y-class now gets a larger bottle at the start of the flight and "plane" water runs after that.

On VA it's a plastic cup that's served from large 1.5L bottles of water. When the next water run happens they encourage people to use the same cup.

Both QF and VA they always seems to put all the rubbish (including plastic bottles and cups) in one bin so I doubt it's actually getting recycled. What's more interesting is on that recent project sunrise flight Qantas was promoting the use of a reusable water bottle although you do have to wonder how that will work and where the water in that jug is coming from...

Which takes a lot longer to serve. QF do that in domestic J class on most flights. Handing out the small water bottles is at least quick. And one way or the another the pax gets at least one plastic item (cup or bottle) which could be recycled.

And on QFi the water served for Y-class drinks runs is from a jug from the plane tank.

J used to have a choice of drinks served in actual glasses! Those were the days. Oh well, I guess they had to cut something in order to offer J at a more reasonable pri... oh.

In MEL Pub now and see they still have paper cups, guess SYD is the trial. They need to offer proper sized cups and mugs especially in the morning peak.

Maybe they just ran out of cups?

No the barista was telling people asking for the takeaway cups they were doing their bit for the environment

Not on all sectors. It seems hit and miss. Just this Monday it was water (or juice) in glass while a few weeks ago it was water/water in glass one sector and bottle on another. At first I thought it was related to trying to do a quick departure or something (ie: cut down the service time doing PDB but that didn't seem to be it either - at least in limited observation).

I noticed last night in flight Qantas were separting the cans/bottles fromt he rest of the rubish when clearing up after meal service. maybe they are now recycling onboard waste?

For domestic flights, while the preference is to serve pre take off drinks in glass, there are circumstances where crew may give the small bottles instead due to time or because catering is taking place.
