I booked a frequent flyer flight Melbourne to Cairns QF702 (departing 9:30am) on 16 June for $56 per person (for my wife and I). Qantas emailed me to tell me that the flight had been rescheduled to depart at 8:10am and asked me did I want to cancel for a full refund or was I happy to go on the rescheduled flight. I indicated that I was happy to be rescheduled onto the QF 702 flight now departing at 8:10am. There was no discussion or indication of any additional charges!
Sometime later when I looked at my new e-ticket 1) I was shocked to see that we have now been charged a new price for my rescheduled flight. I have either been charged $241 per person for the rescheduled flight or I have been charged an additional $241 per person for the rescheduled flight which Qantas rescheduled. I cannot actually tell what the new ticket price is from my new e-ticket. But I did not give Qantas any sort of permission to rebook me at a new, excessive price!
2) It says somewhere on their website that you can cancel at no charge as long as you do so withing 24 hours. I tried to contact Qantas on several contact numbers given on their website but there is no human being to talk to you are just told "we value your patience but our customer service will get to you as soon as possible" but you never get through to a human that can help you.
3) When you log onto the Qantas frequent flyer site there are the same frequent flyer seats available on the newly rescheduled QF 702 flight which I find extremely irritating because why did Qantas just simply not give us our seats on the flight they rescheduled for the same price I paid at the original booking time which are still available now instead of helping themselves to at least an extra $370 ($185 per person ($241-$56) ) which I did not give them permission to do and it was Qantas that rescheduled flight QF 702 in the first place? If I cancel these seats I have a feeling that they will now charge me a cancellation fee which they may already have charged me to reschedule my flight which they changed in the first place!
This is a terrible service ! We now refuse to travel on Jetstar as we have found their service to be shocking and after having been faithful Qantas frequent flyers for many decades I think that we have now come to the end of the road with Qantas itself.
Has anybody else had this terrible experience or are we "just lucky"? Can anyone suggest how this can be resolved before we finally pull the plug on Qantas!
