Qantas refurbish - any rumors?

Yes I was referring to the new A330 J seat.

I personally find the seat uncomfortable in the upright and semi reclined positions (I have not needed to sleep yet). You are forced to offset your feet significantly due to the seat in front. The bulkhead seats are far better however.

From a purely seating comfort point of view, I would rate the seat in the bottom quarter of lie flat J seats I have tried. There are far better J seats out there which QF could use.

I found the semireclined position really uncomfortable too. Perhaps it is OK for certain sizes of people and not others. It was really uncomfortable not having my feet and legs properly supported.

It is better than the sky beds but would benefit from a slightly larger storage area, big enough for a man/handbag.

I am always wary of QF cabin upgrades: last time they removed half the J toilets and 1/3 of the galley between F & Y meaning loss of the noise buffer between cabins.

* IFE screen tilts so that you can get a great viewing angle as you recline & you can watch a movie on take off since you don't need to stow the screen.

Interestingly CX no longer requires IFE screens to be stowed for taxi and takeoff, despite what the sticker says! The crew were actively advising pax of this on my last flight.

CX learnt the hard way with the coffin J seat.

They may have learned the lesson financially, but at least they were offering a full flat product! The seats weren't the best, but full marks to CX for trying. I actually didn't mind the coffin seats too much, but then I didn't have problems with width.

Oh nice! Thanks for that info. I have 2 J CX flights next month. AA unfortunately badgered me about this (as of July) so perhaps they'll adopt the same policy soon for their 773.
