This thread caused me to question my assumption that when Mrs C and i fly F on a qantas flight number on EK metal out of colombo whether we can take the delinquents into the emirates lounge with us
Hard to find that exact answer on the webpage!

True, but some of us have moved out to a rental property to see how another neighbourhood compares - something I would never have contemplated 18months ago.

(Just off another VA flight, 4 rtn trips short of VA SG).

Regards,

BD

Haha. Love it.

I am P1 and was in DXB 2 weeks ago and had no issues getting my wife and 2 children into the EK first lounge on both legs

I did have trouble finding the transfer area for the overnight hotel stay!!

Travelled through DXB twice in last three weeks with Mrs and two juniors (4 & 8), QF WP, QF flight numbers and metal. First time welcomed with open arms, toys given to the kids etc.

Second time was asked how many guests when they saw the gang walk in. You could see she was just about to deny entry, then walked over and checked with the supervisor, and after some further discussion (ie. wasn't just a simple "no, they are fine") she returned and granted entry to us all.

I was under the impression on QF flight numbers kids didn't count?

Looks like another example of the greedy gaming the system - killing it for the many doing the right thing

For the Emirates lounge in DXB, for QP members travelling in Y, children do count as guests.

what information do they capture on entering the lounge? In DXB terminal B/C the lounge has 2 entrances, one at each end, was toying with the idea of coming in one way with the kid, then getting SWMBO in via the other end :)

Boarding passes get scanned, including those of guests they have brought in. Not sure if they worry for kids, DXB is generally pretty family friendly. Cheers skip

DXB isn't a QF lounge, so that condition doesn't apply.

According to this page on the QF website, under benefits for Platinum (my underline):

  • Lounge Access
Enjoy access for you and one guest to Emirates Lounges throughout Australia, Europe, Asia, North Africa and the Middle East, whenever you fly with Qantas or Emirates. In Dubai, you and a guest may enjoy the luxurious Emirates First Lounge and in other airports, the Emirates Lounges. When departing London Heathrow on a Qantas operated aircraft (when travelling on a QF or EK flight number), Platinum members can access the British Airways Lounge. When departing London Heathrow on an Emirates operated aircraft (when travelling on a QF or EK flight number) Platinum members can access the Emirates Lounge. Up to two children (aged between 0 and 17 years) can access the Emirates Lounges when accompanied by a Platinum member.

This should not have happened. You absolutely should have been admitted without question by the EK lounge staff in DXB.
From the QF web site

FWIW I took two of my kids aged 9 and 11 into the DXB F lounge a couple of weeks ago. No questions asked.

maybe so princess
But your kids just looked as if they belonged there!
weren't they taking you in?

What if you book a flight to Europe, and there isn't a QF codeshare with EK (EK code only) ??? Should you then be allowed lounge access?

EK will begin flying to BUD soon, but there is no QF code-share. So, you fly SYD-DXB then on to BUD with EK. As there is no codeshare, you don't get lounge access in Dubai.

I wrote a PM to Red Roo asking this. No much of an encouraging reply to say the least.

also a question of price vs. convenience, with EK you can do just 1 stop before your final EU destination in DXB (eg. MEL-DXB then DXB-europe), with other carriers you'll need a couple: SIN/HKG/KUL then one more in FRA/LHR/CDG/etc for connection to final destination (eg. Budapest, etc). Of course how long the transit in DXB is can play a part too, if long and no lounge access, well

That said you can buy lounge access for around $50-70 I think at a lounge in the DXB airport, can't recall the name just now.

I believe QR flies to Budapest direct from Doha.

Of course pre-EK, lounge access for QP would have been no issue with QF/BA, codeshare or no codeshare (albeit with transit at LHR). In fact you could fly all the way from Australia on BA metal, BA codes, book with BA, and have QF/BA lounge access all the way.

Not good enough QF/EK. Partners or not ?

...and of course, QF shared the revenue.
