As reported in the NZHerald
From March 2018, Emirates to cut MEL/BNE-AKL flights with QF to take up the slack.

Highlights
  • EK/QF partnership/codeshare to continue
  • EK to continue operating SYD-CHC-SYD with an A380
  • EK to cut MEL-AKL-MEL / BNE-AKL-BNE
  • QF to introduce new daily MEL-AKL-MEL (QF159 MEL-AKL dep 1045 arr 1620 / QF158 AKL-MEL dep 1200 arr 1415)
  • QF to introduce extra 2 weekly BNE-AKL-BNE flights
  • Some existing QF services to be upgauged from the B738 to the A330

Thumbs up from me if it means QF replacing the B738 with A330 from MEL-AKL , would also be nice to see QF A330 on MEL-WLG too...

Last paragraph in the NZ Herald article:

"Qantas Group chief executive Alan Joyce said the partnership was being enhanced to reflect customer demand, new aircraft technology and the airlines' respective network strengths."

So now he is enhancing other airlines level of service as well!

This sucks. The A380 flights had become my regular choice for regular TT travel. So much nicer in economy than a Qantas 737 - there was no competition. The A330 isn't much better in Y - although does give the option to upgrade to business using my QFF points.

Agreed. the extra legroom you get in the EK A380 Y will be missed when you're sitting in the QF B738

Much prefer Emirates to Qantas planes and crew on this route. Boo.

Air NZ 777 BNE-AKL has been my goto for the past year, I'm happy with that

Will put an end to some fun status runs across the ditch with F class, but this is all about money for EK and is no real surprise.

The pay off no doubt is also EK not kicking up too much of a fuss about PER-LHR on QF (or other such services) and pulling out of DXB.

Well I have a F trip next month and may just book some more before"the end" to enjoy it while I can :)

I will now be seeking the (J) A330 flight options, I am finally over the J offering on the 737, it isn't up to scratch IMHO

Couldn't agree more, and hopefully with 28 instead of 12 J seats there may be more upgrades coming through (haha, we can dream...)

Makes sense, the life of these flights was surely limited from the time EK started AKL-DXB non-stop, noting CHC flight preserved in the absence of a non-stop to DXB.
