Qantas to resume regular flights to Bali for summer

QANTAS is going back to Bali for the summer, seven years after it surrendered the route to Jetstar.

The Flying Kangaroo will today announce seasonal flights between Sydney and Denpasar throughout the peak travel period of December and January.

Qantas weighs into crowded Bali market

Interesting move and looking to extract a significant premium over VA, as VA drops most of its routes.

I can see there would be reduced business travel over that period so its a good use of a 737... however im sure most here wouldn't be happy with the sector length on a narrow body... myself included

That 738 will need the cleaners to work overtime before it returns to regular duties.

The resumption of Qantas flights between Sydney and Bali will make the route among the most competitive, with Jetstar, Virgin Australia, Indonesia AirAsia X and Garuda Indonesia also flying direct services.

Competitive alright... How is anyone making a profit?!

Because of the sheer numbers. 3000 people a day over summer are travelling from Australia to Bali according to the article.

Go look at what garuda charge during school holidays... the flights are always full.

Not a flight I'm keen to do on a 737. But it's always good to see more competition, I guess.

Interesting new route development.

Will be interesting to see over timeif the route develops beyond a seasonal timetable for Qantas.

Would have thought more of a response to VA NOT dropping the route ..... as VA isn't dropping SYD-DPS and in any event, IIRC VA isn't dropping MEL and ADL services until after the QF services finish (and don't see the appeal of adding 3+ hours to a journey just to fly a QF 737 ex MEL/ADL anyway)

You would guess that everyone is losing money at the moment - QF fares haven't been loaded yet but look what they are walking into - have a look at the current typical fares and the competition and consider their cost of operating.... (Edit - had to manually stick the Air Asia fares into this google search from the Air Asia web site - may be a few more %^$ fees that may bump it up a little)

Would I be correct to think that Garuda is the most comfortable option out of all airlines that fly this route?

Garuda are now an awesome operator Domestic and Inter compared to QF. They have sorted their safety issues so as to be allowed back into the game.

Meloz

Pity many corporate insurers are yet to be convinced of that, if it is the truth of course and I'm not in a position with the depth of information to make an informed opinion myself. All I know is that we are still blocked from using Garuda for this reason.

I know we aren't blocked. Having just done 3 GA sectors on Friday. But if you want to travel within Indonesia there isn't a lot of choice. I'd take GA over any other domestic carriers within the country.

SYD-DPS flights on QF are currently going for $420 return. Travel dates 4-15 December and 20-30 January.

Gee, that's pretty much JQ prices ( not including the Plus Bundle)..... Good value to be had :)
