Qantas returns to Bali

Gee, that's pretty much JQ prices ( not including the Plus Bundle)..... Good value to be had :)

Actually the dates I saw had return prices of $343 on QF vs $402 for VA or $548 for JQ.

I wouldn't risk it though - QF could quite easily cancel their flights in Dec/Jan and rebook you onto JQ, which would make for an amusing discussion on board the JQ plane with your seatmate having paid more for their flights than your original bookings with QF.

Has the Bali tourism market really dropped that much?

I booked a mid-range hotel with the Accor 40% off sale last week, for the Christmas period. There is still plenty of availability in hotels at the moment during the peak season for good prices, which seems to be rather unusual being just 2 months out.

With Garuda I'd be asking what you value more - comfort or your life?

Garuda's last international incident was 19 years ago, with three deaths after a runway overrun at cough.

I'd say I'm fairly comfortable flying GA international. As for domestic... flying in that part of the world seems to come with added danger (particularly weather). I'd be on GA aircraft before many of the other options available.

How about Aeroflot?

The effect of Mount Raung eruption and ash cloud wrecked havoc with uncertainty on the market. Arrival figures from the local Tourist Office was at a five year low for the month of August. Aussie entries was down 30% compared to August 2014 - 58430 from 83795. A similar result of 27% decrease occurred in July as well.

This was true a decade or so back but I’d have no hesitation flying with them now. Have done 8 trips to Bali and Lombok with them in the last 3 years and thought the comfort and quality of every flight was top notch.

More QFI to MEL is always good news!

Wonder where the 737 is coming from? Perhaps some of trans tasman upgauged A330 services have given them some wriggle room.

Yes agreed another new international service for MEL, on a roll now :)

Personally not a destination that gets me that excited but they are pulling in a good yield on these flights and leaving the budget crowd to Jetstar and what remains of VA.

VA no longer operates between MEL and DPS

We just need to get to Bali this time to get on Qatar flight to Paris just booked in the excellent sale a few months ago.

I tried changing the Sydney flight to Mel but it’s going to cost $400 pp change fee. Fare itself was $14 cheaper however. Just was well there are DSC in the works.
