Qantas Revenue booking cancellations (under covid19)

What happened exactly?

Absolutely nothing. I used the chat function in the app to find out what was happening with my refund, and was told because I agreed to the voucher there wouldn't be one. As if I never clicked the refund button at all. I said I hadn't agreed to the voucher, and she then said ok she could refund but at $600pp cancellation fee. I said Qantas cancelled the flight so the fee should be waived, and she immediately agreed to that too. So it's a bluff, designed to try to trick you into leaving your money as a voucher.

Sorry, what so you mean, where available?

I haven't received an email with option to choose refund or voucher. Do you mean by, where available, flights where you have been offered refund option already or flights where you are not penalised to much (e.g. sale fare)? Sorry!

Exactly, where available as an option take the refund providing that the cancellation fees aren't prohibitive (sale fares etc ) otherwise I opt for the credit vouchers for which I've been emailed some new Booking references that still don't show up anywhere in MMB.

Thanks, helpful to know!

Is it unusual that my return MEL-LST flight tomorrow (booked via Qantas online) has completely disappeared from "My Bookings" however I have had no email, no notification (SMS or otherwise) and there's no option to request refund or voucher from Qantas? Or is this observed behavior by others here?
I did not cancel the flights. In My Bookings under the PNR it shows the traveler info but no flights and no big red button.

It does seem unusual.

For me in My Bookings the cancelled PNRs show as "Off Line Point to Off Line Point"
Within the booking is a list of voucher terms and conditions, with the Refund button right at the bottom.
Notifications have been inconsistent - received emails for some cancellations but not for others.

If your flight is scheduled for tomorrow best give Qantas a call to double check.

Pattern emerging here.

The remaining flights on my OWA have all disappeared, they were there a day or two ago & as of yet no communication from QF.

When I go to MMB & I get a lovely message of "Your trip is complete. Thank you for flying Qantas," Flights that were yet to be flown are no longer listed.

Guess I'll be joining the phone queue.

Update.

I called the 13 number. Got through in under 5 minutes.
Very helpful lady explained that I'd automatically been processed for a voucher given one flight (LST-MEL) was cancelled and the outbound was rescheduled. Apparently one leg cancellation means the whole trip is automatically cancelled and voucher processed.
She changed the voucher for a full refund request. Got the amount correct when I queried it
Said it would be 5 -7 weeks.

All up took about 10 minutes including wait time.
Assuming the refund comes through it was a painless experience.

I rang QF yesterday about my refund as I have been waiting since mid March and was told by QF again in April that my refund would be processed in 2-3 days. Guy I spoke to was very helpful and told me that he has tried to escalate refunds for people that are getting messed around but his supervision says they wont consider escalating any requests until they have at least reached the 6 week mark. I'm thankful that I'm in a position, that I can wait for the money, there would be people that could really need their money back! (me is $1400)

Still waiting☹

I was told 45 days before they will escalate. Which for me is end of next week. Around $1600. Qatar is playing similar games and is for much more so have lodged a dispute with Amex. Qatar have given me several dates, in writing, of when it was processed to the card all of which have been sent to Amex. I haven't worried as much about Qantas.

yeah. We received a points upgrade and points deducted for a flight we'd cancelled the week before. Needless to say two systems don't talk to each other.

I just cancelled a flight to Europe for August. Fortunately, it looks like I didn't loose any points as the airline changed the flight schedule to a day later. However, I'm now owed hundreds in taxes. The CC I used to pay for the taxes is now cancelled, so will Qantas send me a cheque or a voucher? Not bothered either way as long as they send me something to the same value. Thank you.

We have tickets in PE for MEL-LON for the start of September, returning FCO-MEL end of October. With the UK talking social distancing for the rest of the year & Italy being in a sorry state ATM, we are considering cancelling to next year.
What's the chances of Qantas extending the voucher system beyond the end of July, I know I can cancel now, but would be hit with the fees.

The fees and charges will go back onto the original credit card used. You should then contact that bank/card issuer and get them to transfer the money to you (they can transfer to another bank account or cheque, etc.

Thank you for your reply. Is Qantas meant to send a confirmation e-mail when they credit the money back into my now cancelled credit card? Or does this occur straight away? After I cancelled the flights I didn't receive a confirmation e-mail only text on the screen saying I will be credited hundreds of dollars in unused taxes. I didn't pay too much attention to it as I just presumed they would send an e-mail outlining everything...

Thank you.

They will simply refund the money to the original card. You'll need to keep an eye out for it. The receiving card may send you a letter saying you have a credit balance, or they may not.

The main problem is that Qantas is not saying when the money will be refunded - could be weeks - up to 12 weeks. So it makes it complicated to keep checking.

The current deadline for canceling bookings for a voucher with no fees is 30 April. I have a business class booking to Paris for late June (QF/AF to Paris, EK return) and have been holding out canceling, waiting for QF to cancel so I can get a refund. I’ve just received an email from QF reminding me that I have until 30 April to cancel for a no fee voucher. I’m inclined to hold out (play a game of chicken) thinking that this date will have to be extended and there still is a good chance the flights will be cancelled. Is this a good strategy?

They already have. Credit Vouchers are valid until end of December 2021. That is, book up until then but also fly by end of 12/2021, which still gives plenty of time to book the flights.

Must be an awful lot of refunds going back to diners club as they sent a letter with the last Statement saying that no interest will be paid on credit balances!
